The musical history of the members of the band reaches far back. Filip Míšek and Petr Šámal met many years ago and played together in a band called "Hummingbird". At about the same time, Filip Míšek started with the band "Roe-Deer". This is where he met the gifted singer Ema Brabcová. Pretty soon they both knew that they wanted to make a different sort of music - and Khoiba was born. The name Khoiba, by the way, is a fictional creation of bassist Petr Šámal. Nowadays, Ema Brabcová, Filip Misek, Petr Šámal and Yonatan Omer concentrate exclusively on Khoiba - with due success. The sound of Khoiba is an inspired interplay of electronic music and clear, melodious guitar tunes, a creative down-tempo mix full of ideas, that creates an exceptional and special atmosphere. A great part in this surely has Ema Brabcová with her distinctive and expressive voice that immerses you in the partly spheric and catchy Khoiba tunes. The track "Half In" (Track 2 of the debut album "Nice Traps") is a very good example for this. Khoiba describes their style as "pop and atmospheric music, full of melancholy and positive emotions, sometimes very dynamic, somtimes soft". Each track has its own history and its own inherent emotions. Khoiba are not only convincing studio musicians, but very approachable with live performances all over Europe, which they meticulously prepare and enjoy. Whether in their home country the Czech Republic or in France, Germany, the Netherlands or Austria, they have impressed the audience at more than 50 gigs and festivals. "Live performances are very important to us and always very special events full of emotions. We are pleased when the audience gets carried away and when we get their positive feedback", says the band, and one can tell that music plays a big part in their lives.

Khoiba Lyrics

I'm trying to turn my head around
To be head to head with you in white shade
But i'm stuck
Even i know there is something between us
My edict says not yet allowed
Once and for all to step out
I'm laying through my tears
I'm staring at the wall
In tops of higher trees
I don't need to hide my call
I'm facing that blue wall
I'm facing your blue ...
Even i know there is something between us
Every start has a different overall
But nevertheless continues the same way
But i'm stuck
Even i know there is something between us
The winner will take his half of all
Behind that fascinating wall
I feed you with my tears
You keep them soft and warm
I'm staring at the wall
In tops of higher trees
I don't need to hide my call
I'm facing that blue wall
I'm facing your blue ...
The lyrics to Khoiba's song "Ohio" highlight a sense of being stuck in a difficult situation. The singer is aware that there is a connection between them and another person, but feels unable to act on it. They want to be "head to head" with this person, but know that their "edict" prevents them from doing so. It seems that their hesitation comes from a fear of rejection or perhaps from societal pressures.
The repetition of the phrase "Even I know there is something between us" emphasizes the singer's sense of frustration and confusion. They understand the situation intellectually, but can't seem to make themselves act on it. This is further emphasized by the line "I'm laying through my tears", which suggests a feeling of helplessness.
The use of imagery throughout the song is also striking, particularly the references to walls and trees. The singer is "staring at the wall" and "facing that blue wall", which may represent the physical or emotional barriers preventing them from pursuing the relationship. The image of the "tops of higher trees" suggests a desire for escape or transcendence, perhaps to rise above their current situation.
Overall, "Ohio" is a poignant exploration of the complexities of human relationships and the difficulty of navigating our emotions.
