2) The Kickback is an American indie rock band originally started in Vermillion, South Dakota by singer/songwriter Billy Yost. The band is now based in Chicago, Illinois and includes guitarist Jonny Ifergan and bassist Daniel Leu. The band's latest LP Weddings & Funerals was produced by Grammy winner Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello, Ben Folds, Wavves) and their song "False Jeopardy" was featured in the Lily Collins/Keanu Reeves film 'To the Bone'. They're ALSO famous for their hateful shows, full of anger and blood, but it's—you know—inward-looking and un-French.

Against the World
Kickback Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Forced to exist you wait for the fall
Day after day you get nothing but lies
The colors have faded i' ve seen their disguise
Represent , represent (x2)
You seek respect but end up in a grave
Misled by their rules to suppress our pride
We must realize the power lies inside
CHORUS
Life of rorment, it's tearing miself apart
Disillusion, constant pressure, pain...
Never give in
CHORUS
I will be free I' ll do what it takes
We were born to die vhat do we have at stake ?
I stand accused but I won't take the blame
I'm going for mine I'm so tired of this game
CHORUS
I'm so sick I'm so tered of this game
Endless pain I won't live a life of shame
I resist - break the chains
As I stand against this world
The lyrics in Kickback's song Against The World are about standing up against the oppressive powers that aim to keep individuals down. The opening lines describe the feeling of waiting for something to happen in life, only to be met with lies and disappointment. It is a feeling of being forced to exist, of being stagnant in life. The line "The colors have faded I've seen their disguise" suggests that the world has lost its vibrancy and has become bland or fake.
The chorus echoes the sentiment of the song, urging listeners to resist and never give in to the pressures of society. The lines "Life of torment, it's tearing myself apart / Disillusion, constant pressure, pain" describe the physical and emotional toll of being in such an oppressive world. The voice is one of rebellion and determination, with lines like "I will be free I'll do what it takes" and "I stand accused but I won't take the blame".
The song ultimately speaks to a desire for change, for individuals to find their own power and stand up in opposition to those who aim to keep them underfoot. The chorus repeats this idea, urging listeners to stand against the world and refuse to be held down by societal pressures.
