Maybe
[Chorus (x2)]
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, baby
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, my g
[Verse 1]
I cant lie sometimes I'm feeling low
Please get outta my mind
Imma find out which way to go
I need to take control
Had a problem ahead of me
I can never let it be reality
I've come to find out
Coming up my senses say to hide out
So many alone insecurities
See that checking in the mirror
I'm a maniac I admit it, do you get it?
[Chorus (x2)]
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, baby
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, my g
[Verse 2]
No lie some days are better days
Walking with my mind
My heart will know the way
I need to take it slow
But I don't know another route
I can never let this be the end of days the end of dreams
So sure I'll be ok
My mind is stronger than yours, wait quicker no lie
See that checking in the mirror
I'm a maniac I admit it, do you get it?
[Chorus]
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, baby
Maybe I'm not exactly what you want me to be
Maybe you need not worry bout me, my g
Maybe

In this song, Kid Cudi is wrestling with his own insecurities and self-doubt. He acknowledges that he might not be exactly what someone else wants him to be, but encourages them not to worry about him because he will find his own way. The chorus repeats a reassuring message that perhaps Kid Cudi himself needs to hear, that it's okay if he's not everything someone else wants him to be.
The first verse opens with Kid Cudi acknowledging that sometimes he feels low and overwhelmed, but he is determined to take control of his life and find a way forward. He alludes to some unnamed problem that he can't let become his reality. Throughout the song, Kid Cudi seems to be struggling with self-acceptance and an awareness that he might not fit societal expectations. He calls himself a maniac and asks, "Do you get it?" With this line, he might be asking if his audience can understand what it's like to feel like an outsider, to grapple with mental illness or other challenges.
In the second verse, Kid Cudi reflects that some days are better than others, but he encourages himself to take it slow and trust that his heart will guide him in the right direction. He acknowledges that he doesn't know the answer to everything, but expresses a determination not to give up on his dreams. The repeated mention of the line "see that checking in the mirror" suggests that Kid Cudi is struggling to accept himself, to validate his own perspective, and is seeking assurance that "maybe" it's okay to be who he is.
Overall, "Maybe" is a deeply personal and introspective song that reflects the heart of Kid Cudi's musical style. He is known for exploring themes of anxiety, vulnerability, and social isolation, and "Maybe" is a powerful example of his ability to distill complex emotions into simple yet poignant lyrics.
