"He really is a chameleon.” For those that don’t get it, earlier on in the episode when Chandler brings up the commercial, Joey asks if his agency can cast him and then he says “I can do anything, I’m a chameleon” and starts listing/showing off all the different roles he can play (a chameleon is a term that can be used to describe someone who can adapt to any situation).

But it turns out Joey saying he was a chameleon, meant the literal reptile that shifts from different hues and brightness, which is why Chandlers line is both hilarious and iconic.

It would be harder, but they could still get away with this being a secret if they kept the "only aired in Japan" thing - even if it ended up online (which I guess is what you're thinking of) you'd still have to know what to search for, so it could still be a sort of secret these days.

But yeah, it wouldn't be a shock... it wouldn't have been much of one back then either, as men wearing makeup was a thing back then, it has been for years, but it's more due to the characters, I guess - even if it's just how Chandler would joke about it, he's a joker, he jokes about anything, but for the most part I don't think he'd have a problem with this... he'd just joke about it.

To those who haven't watched the "Joey" spin off show, Joey revealed that the lipstick stopped being sold because it was discovered to be poisonous. So I feel bad that he and Chandler both put this stuff on their lips. I actually wish that idea was used in this episode. Like imagine Joey getting a call from the company and it is played on speaker on their answering machine and they said how if Joey has been applying anymore of the lipstick, he needs to stop, throw it away, and see a doctor immediately to make sure he's okay because of how they found out the lipstick is poisonous. I feel like this should've happened right when Chandler and Joey get back to the apartment right after Chandler showed the lipstick to everyone that way when they get the message, Chandler still has the lipstick on his lips and when he hears it, he wipes it off immediately and he attacks Joey for making him put the lipstick on.
