Having spent the majority of the early part of his career behind the control board and not the mic, Kid Ink crafting his production skills working with multi-platinum artists like Sean βDiddyβ Combs and Sean Kingston as well Yung Berg and Nipsey Hussle. Production came natural for Kid Ink, "I started making the beats because I already had several artists trying the rap thing out, so I thought I would be more useful supplying the production." But sitting behind the board was not enough for Kid Ink. Just a few short years ago, Kid Ink picked up the mic and a new contender in the Hip-Hop game was born.
Honing his skills as a songwriter creating hooks for his beats, Kid Ink stepped up his lyrical repertoire with full length and completed songs.
2010 was a breakout year in the young rapperβs career. Teaming up with world-renowned DJ ill Will and DJ Rockstarβs newly formed Tha Alumni Music Group; Kid Ink became more focused in his grind and began working on the underground hit, Crash Landing Mixtape. His hard work paid off and the music industry began to take notice. Within 10 days of its release, Crash Landing garnered critical acclaim, a position at the top of Datpiff.comβs βTop Mixtapes of the Weekβ section and amassed an astonishing 50 thousand downloads.
After Crash Landingsβ debut, national and international request to perform rolled in. Kid Ink has toured the states with stops in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Denver, Kansas City and Buffalo; and internationally in Toronto, Canada, Zurich, Switzerland, Melbourne, Australia and Krasnador, Russia.
Solidifying himself as a real MC, Kid Ink garnered career-defining features from Hip-Hop and R&B stars including Young Money's Gudda Gudda, Roscoe Dash, Sterling Simms, Bei Maejor, Meek Mill and many more. Kid Inkβs uncompromising work ethic would not allow him to rest on his more than impressive laurels; there needed to be a βvisualβ movement to showcase his innovative style and unique persona.
Lensed by Director Alex Nazari, Kid Ink released an astounding 8 cutting-edge music videos in 2010 alone. Tearing the Net to shreds, to date his now 26 released videos have garnered a very impressive 50 plus million views.
2011 continued to be phenomenal for the young MC. Having released his (free to the public) sophomore album Daydreamer on June 21st via the internet, the lyrical juggernaut accumulated over 150 thousand downloads in its first week. Fans went ballistic over the album that featured all original production from the likes of The Runners, Lex Luger, Jahlil Beats, Cardiak & Tha Bizness as well as major features from the Cory Gunz, Meek Mill, Ray J, Sean Kingston, Dorrough, Bei Maejor and more.
Bucking the norm of waiting for a major label deal to kick off his career, the rapper has taken his fate in to his own hands and crafted an internet campaign that rivals many of the acts resting high on the Billboard charts. With videos under his belt including Internet sensations βLowkey Poppin,β βPleaseβ and βCali Dreamin,ββ Kid Ink is definitely rockinβ to his own beat.
Kid Ink continued his 2011 tear by releasing βWheels Up,β yet another all original Mixtape on October 10th to an overwhelming response. Once again outdoing the numbers his previous project accumulated. Following the release of βWheels Up,β Ink has been on a mini βWheels Upβ tour including stops in the Bay Area, Denmark, New York, Boston, Toronto, Denver & Chicago to name a few, performing to packed crowds of 600-2,000.
Ink started 2012 red hot as the first single βTime Of Your Lifeβ off his debut album βUp & Awayβ was picked up in early January by radio & the first week this song was released on iTunes it sold a staggering 20k copies. βTime Of Your Lifeβ peaked at #32 on the Rythmic Radio Charts with 750+ spins a week and has reached an audience of over 100 million selling 160k + singles Independently. In addition, the official video for βTime Of Your Lifeβ has reached over 12 million views on Youtube and was added to regular rotation on MTV Jams and MTV2. Following the success of βTime Of Your Lifeβ and the follow up single βDrippin,β Ink launched his Indie album βUp & Awayβ in June to commercial success with 20k albums sold the 1st week in the US reaching top 20 on Billboard charts (All Albums) and #2 that week in Hip-Hop/Rap. Immediately following the success of βUp & Awayβ Ink toured the US, selling out shows throughout the Country including 6 Summer Jam concerts, followed by a headlining βUp & Awayβ UK Tour that included 25 shows in 35 days β selling out 18 of the shows. βUp & Awayβ has sold well over 50k albums to date (US) & over 70k worldwide.
After the immediate sales success of βUp & Away,β Ink found himself in a bidding war with all the major labels. Ink decided to cap off his career defining 2012 with another Mixtape in November of 2012 titled βRocketshipshawtyβ which has done well over 600k downloads online, followed by 6 videos off the project. Starting off the New Year in 2012 Ink decided to sign a major label deal with RCA Records. On January 3rd, 2013 Ink announced his signing and launched his debut Major Label single βBad Assβ feat MMG heavyweights Wale & Meek Mill.

I got the woman he love sippin' my champagne
But she ain't doin' nothin' wrong
She just fuckin' with a young, rich nigga
Tell that boy stop acting like a bitch nigga
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours?
Girl I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours?
You could bet that, check my stats
From way way back nigga we've been doing this
Same old clubs and the same bitches you just met
Nigga I ain't got time
If the bezel ain't diamonds, presi Obama
Pool in the Bahamas, black ferragamo
Need me some condoms, we fuckin' up commas, honest
Right now this rap shit is crackin' for me
If it didn't work out we'd be back to the streets
See life is a bitch crazier than Kelis
But I'm picturing money, my nigga say cheese
Feel fresh like Axe on me, nah y'ain't gotta put up no act for me
Your girlfriend already said you act so cheap
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
My nigga you should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours? Why you bullshittin'?
Girl I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours? 'Bout yours, 'bout yours, 'bout yours
I'm about mine ('bout mine) is you 'bout yours? ('Bout yours, 'bout yours) Why you bullshittin'?
Girl I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours? 'Bout yours, 'bout yours, 'bout yours
I'm about mine, tell me is you 'bout yours?
Yeah she say I'm a dog but she down on all fours
Yeah she down on the floor cause there's money all over
Then back on the pole with it
Now I got time, 'cause now I got change
Shit the cup got drank and we 'bout to get high girl
What did you think?
I say God to your dress but no you ain't no saint
Shit
You know you coming to the crib girl ain't cha
You drinking all this liquor girl ain't cha
I'm feeling on your booty girl ain't I
Show you how to have a real good time
So bust it for me, elbows on your knees
We don't care who's lookin', Mustard on the beat
Ball hard and yo' bitch tryna reach
No it ain't my fault that she's running through the streets
Dumb blonde, got you looking like a fool nigga
(Said)
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
My nigga you should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
I'm about mine ('bout mine) is you 'bout yours? ('Bout yours, 'bout yours) Why you bullshittin'?
Girl I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours? 'Bout yours, 'bout yours, 'bout yours
I got all bad bitches at my table
Where them gon' do it
All this money that I can't hold
Throw some, taunt it
Only bad bitches at my table
That, that, that's all I got
Which one of y'all I'ma take home
I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours?
Girl I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours?
You should get some money, why you bullshittin'?
This song, "About Mine" by Kid Ink featuring Trey Songz, is a catchy trap-inspired track that speaks about the excitement and lavish lifestyle of being a wealthy rapper. The song's chorus, "You should get some money, why you bullshittin'? I'm about mine, is you 'bout yours?" suggests that the rapper doesn't have time for fake people or those who aren't willing to work hard and achieve their goals. Kid Ink boasts about his vast wealth and the expensive things he possesses, such as a pool in the Bahamas and diamond-studded watches, making it clear that he's not afraid to flaunt his success. Furthermore, the rapper takes pleasure in the women he attracts, especially those who he steals from his enemies. Throughout the song, Kid Ink asserts his dedication to his career and his ambition to keep achieving.
One of the interesting components of "About Mine" is its production. The song's beat, made by rapper/producer DJ Mustard, highlights the classic West Coast sound favored by Kid Ink. DJ Mustard's music is synonymous with the "ratchet" sound that became popular in the early 2010s, characterized by hard-hitting drum machines, percussive claps, low-pitched synthesizers, and catchy hooks. This sound inspired many producers and is still prevalent in pop and hip-hop music today.
Moreover, "About Mine" features Trey Songz, an R&B artist known for his emotional and passionate singing. He brings a unique flavor to the song, which helps Kid Ink's rap verses stand out even more. The two have collaborated on several occasions and have a long history of working together.
Another intriguing aspect of this song is its use of metaphorical language. Kid Ink uses Kelis's hit song "Milkshake" to make a comparison, stating that life is crazier than the lyrics describe. Similarly, when he says "we're fucking up commas," he's referring to the symbols used to separate numbers, indicating that he's making money so quickly that he's losing track of it.
In conclusion, "About Mine" is a successful song that showcases Kid Ink's talent as a rapper and DJ Mustard's skills as a producer. With Trey Songz on board, the song has a unique sound that sets it apart from other club bangers. It's a clever song that employs metaphorical language and catchy hooks to get people moving on the dance floor.
