The band have released four studio albums, "Trickster" (1998), "Zerøspace" (2002), and "Trypt0fanatic" (2010). An EP "The Invisible Plan" (2011). And a remix EP "Phi In The Sky" (2001), released in between "Trickster" & "Zerøspace".
The band re-released "Trickster" as "Trickstereprocess" in 2004, which included 5 new bonus tracks, along with a bonus DVD. After the release of "Trickstereprocess", the group called it quits and went their separate ways. Free Dominguez went on to create an indie project while Bruce Somers created the band Shocknina.
In January of 2007, Free Dominguez sent out a newsletter via email stating that she and Bruce are collaborating once again on brand new Kidneythieves material. These sessions resulted in the brand new album "Tryptofanatic".
Kidneythieves have hired bassist Mirv Douglas and are working on their new EP "The Invisible Plan" to be released in October 2011.
Feathers
Kidneythieves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For us to swim, to play
Inopportune devotion cannot be sound
So I take my lot of a few feathers from the sky
Into a ritual and let my spirit fly
Wake up, is this a dream of a dream of a dream?
Simple pleasures
Skating on this machine
Alone between my trip and me.
What is real today?
Until the dawn, away
Rain soft aura potion condemns me now
So I take my lot of a few feathers from the sky
Into a ritual and let my spirit fly
Simple pleasures
Falling feathers
Skating on this machine
Alone between my trip and me.
The price of all this vanity is getting way too high
The maintenance of my sanity is taking too much time
Simple feathers
Falling feathers
7000 reasons to dream, 1 reason to live, 1 reason to me.
The lyrics of Kidneythieves' "Feathers" are open to interpretation, but a common theme seems to be escapism. The rain and the feathers serve as a means of escape from the mundane world, which the singer regards as filled with "inopportune devotion" that cannot be trusted. The singer takes a few feathers from the sky and performs a ritual with them in order to let their spirit fly. The refrain of "simple pleasures, falling feathers" emphasizes the beauty of these small, fleeting moments of escape.
The second half of the song continues this theme of escape and the search for meaning. The singer describes themselves as "skating on this machine," perhaps referring to an abstract concept of life or a specific activity that brings them joy. They are "alone between [their] trip and [themselves]," which could mean that they are separated from reality or that they are truly themselves when they are escaping. The final lines suggest that the singer is searching for a reason to live amidst their many dreams, and that maintaining their sanity is becoming a struggle.
Overall, "Feathers" conveys a sense of longing for escape and a rejection of the mundane. The imagery of feathers and rain, the repetition of "simple pleasures," and the ambiguous descriptions of the singer's actions all contribute to a dreamlike, abstract quality that invites interpretation.
