“Pop sensibility and technical precision are two qualities that this little band has in spades. Their result sounds innovative and interesting but still approachable, giving Kids and Animals a chance to make it just as big at the bands they admire.” -SEATTLE WEEKLY
Since the spring of 2006, Kids and Animals have been playing shows regularly, with acts such as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, The Globes, PWRFL Power, Speaker Speaker, Don’t Tell Sophie, Black Whales, Man Plus, The Oregon Donor, and many more.
Kids and Animals’ debut full-length album is self-released and self-titled. The album was recorded at Two Sticks Audio during the months of August – November 2009. Kids and Animals Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
you dont have to try soo hard, don't you know you're in my backyard, my backyard
i see you buzzing round trying to pollenate this part of town
you know you flew too far, ya you flew to far to damn far
i'll make it simple for you, just what you want me to do
i'll make it crystal for you so clear
here take my guitar its cool, why not my bicyle too
so you think you've got my figured out out out out out
this hear my friend i surely doubt
now i bet youd be a good detective now
did you detect a backup plan, back up plan
don't come and watch me sing this song
i think by now you best be gone
if you like action then stick around
i'll broadcast news all over town, over town
i'll make it simple for you, just what you want me to do
i'll make it crystal for you so clear
here take my guitar its cool, why not my bicyle too
you've taken everything that's sooo
The song "Backyard" by Kids and Animals is a fun and upbeat track that tells a story of someone invading the singer's space and taking everything that belongs to him. The lyrics suggest that this person may have underestimated the singer and believes that he is old-fashioned and easy to manipulate. However, the singer sees through this person's facade and asks them to leave his backyard.
The opening lyrics "you think I'm old school I see you smiling like a fool" suggests that this person thinks the singer is outdated and easy to take advantage of. However, the singer is aware of the situation and tells the person that they don't have to try so hard to get what they want. The line "you don't have to try soo hard, don't you know you're in my backyard, my backyard" emphasizes that the person is in the singer's personal space and trying too hard to impress him.
The chorus of the song emphasizes that the person needs to back off and stop taking advantage of the singer. The lyrics "I'll make it simple for you, just what you want me to do, I'll make it crystal for you so clear, here take my guitar its cool, why not my bicycle too, you've taken everything that's sooo" suggest that the singer is ready to give up on fighting this person and just wants them to leave. The rest of the song emphasizes that the singer is not to be underestimated and that the person needs to learn to back off.
