Solstice
Kids and Animals Lyrics

Follow behind closely
For much you atone
But, do you get lonely
I know night is longer at the solstice
Shadows darken corners of your room
I'll bring all my friends to sing a chorus
For our song under the palest moon
Sound from below
A voice unholy
Oh I'm not alone
But, I do get lonely
I know night is longer at the solstice
Shadows darken corners of your room
I'll bring all my friends to sing a chorus
For our song under the palest moon
Oh, to commune
I'm sorry for your God
He should be here, should he not
I know night is longer at the solstice
Shadows darken corners of your room
I'll bring all my friends to sing a chorus
Of our song under the palest moon
They'll be here soon
The lyrics of Kids and Animals' song "Solstice" convey a sense of longing, loneliness, and the desire for connection. The opening lines, "The path is overgrown, follow behind closely, for much you atone, but do you get lonely," suggest a journey that may be difficult and burdensome, but also the desire for companionship along the way. The reference to atonement implies a sense of guilt or remorse, which may contribute to the feeling of isolation and the need for someone to share in that experience.
The chorus, "I know night is longer at the solstice, shadows darken corners of your room, I'll bring all my friends to sing a chorus for our song under the palest moon, oh, to commune," speaks to the darkness and heaviness that can be felt during the solstice, both metaphorically and literally. The solstice represents the longest night of the year, and the shadows and darkness in the room symbolize the emotional weight one carries. The line about bringing friends to sing a chorus signifies a desire for community and shared experiences, as a way to alleviate the loneliness and find solace under the pale moon.
The verse, "Sound from below, a voice unholy, oh, I'm not alone, but I do get lonely," suggests the presence of something unsettling or eerie, but also the recognition that even though there may be others around, loneliness can still be felt. This highlights the distinction between physical presence and true connection. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the themes of darkness, longing, and the search for connection.
Overall, "Solstice" explores the themes of isolation, desire for connection, and the emotional weight that can be felt during the darkest times. It conveys a sense of longing for companionship, while acknowledging the complexity of human emotions and the never-ending search for solace and understanding.
