Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.

La da da da
The smell of the air lingers with me now
You're probably on your flight back to your hometown
I need some shelter of my own protection baby
To be with myself and center clarity peace serenity
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I am going to miss you like a child misses a blanket
And got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
The path that I'm walking
I must go alone
I must take the baby steps 'til I'm full grown, full grown
Fairytales don't always have a happy ending, do they?
And I foresee the dark ahead if I stay
I hope you know I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I am going to miss you like a child misses a blanket
And got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
Like the little school mate in the school yard
We'll play jacks and uno cards
I'll be your best friend and you'll be my Valentine
Yes you can hold my hand if you want to
'Cause I want to hold yours too
We'll be playmates and lovers and share our secret worlds
But it's time for me to go home
It's getting late, dark outside
I need to be with myself and center, clarity
Peace, Serenity
I hope you know I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I am going to miss you like a child misses a blanket
And got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
La Da Da Da Da Da
In the song "Big Girls Don't Cry" by KIDZ BOP Kids, the singer talks about the end of a relationship and the need to move on and be independent. The opening lines suggest that the singer is reminiscing about a past relationship, with the smell of the air bringing back memories. The next lines show that the person the singer is talking about has left and is probably on their way back home, leaving the singer feeling a need for protection and solitude.
The singer then admits that the situation has nothing to do with the other person, but is a personal issue that they need to work out. They need to grow and move on, and although they will miss their former partner, they know it's time to be a "big girl" and take control of their own life. The singer recognizes that the path they will be taking will be difficult, but they must take baby steps until they are grown and mature enough to face their challenges head-on.
The final lines describe a childhood friendship in the schoolyard, playing games and sharing secrets. The singer reminisces about the simplicity of childhood friendships, but the song returns to the present reality and the singer's need to be alone to find peace and clarity.
Overall, the lyrics of "Big Girls Don't Cry" are about the end of a relationship and the need for the singer to be independent and find themselves. It's a powerful message about taking responsibility for one's own life and moving on from past hurt.
