Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.

But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me, baby, do you recognize me?
Well, it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
Happy Christmas, I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying, "I love you" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kiss me now I know you'd fool me again
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
A face on another with a fire in his heart (a fire in his heart)
A friend undercover but you tore him apart (you tore him apart)
Maybe next year (next year)
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
Special, someone (someone)
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
(Who'll give me something in return)
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
(Hold my heart and watch it burn)
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
You gave it away
"Last Christmas" by Kidz Bop is a cover version of the popular holiday song, originally released by Wham! in 1984. The song tells the story of a person who gave their heart to someone they loved around the holidays, only to have that love unrequited when the other person gave it away. The lyrics are full of sadness and regret, but also hope for something better in the future.
The song begins with the singer reflecting on the previous year when they gave their heart to someone who didn't appreciate it, and how they don't want to repeat the same mistake. Then the singer reminisces about the past relationship, wondering if their love interest even recognizes them. Despite the hurt and disappointment, the singer is hopeful for a new romance, but only with someone who will appreciate and reciprocate their love.
The song's melody is catchy and upbeat, despite its melancholy lyrics. It features a mix of pop and holiday instrumentation, including sleigh bells and a cheery piano riff. The vocals, sung by children, add an innocent and childlike quality to the song, making it a perfect family-friendly choice for holiday playlists.
