Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.

My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun
The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
But girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have
That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Oh girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun
Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have
That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Oh girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun(Girls they wanna)
(Wanna have fun)
(Girls wanna have)
They just wanna, they just wanna
(Girls, girls just wanna have fun)
They just wanna, they just wanna have fun
Girls, girls just wanna have fun
(They just wanna, they just wanna)
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna
(Girls, girls just wanna have fun)
Girls, girls just wanna have fun
When the workin'
When the workin' day is done
Oh when the workin' day is done
Oh girls, girls just wanna have fun
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna
Oh girls, girls just wanna have fun
(They just wanna, they just wanna)
When the workin'
(They just wanna, they just wanna)
When the workin' day is done
(Girls, girls just wanna have fun)
When the working day is done
Oh girl, girls just wanna have fun
(They just wanna, they just wanna)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
KIDZ BOP Kids's song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" is an upbeat and energizing anthem about empowering women to live their lives unapologetically. The lyrics tell a story of a young girl who is dealing with the expectations and pressures placed on her by her parents and society. The song opens with the girl coming home in the morning light, and her mother questioning when she will start living her life the way she should. The girl responds that they are not the fortunate ones, and girls just want to have fun. The next verse depicts the girl's father calling her in the middle of the night, demanding to know what she will do with her life. Again, the girl responds that girls just want to have fun, and that is all they really want - some fun when the working day is done.
The chorus of the song repeats the idea that all girls really want is to have fun. It is a universal sentiment that resonates with many people, especially young girls who often feel like they are not allowed to do what they want. The song also touches on the idea that some boys try to control and hide away beautiful girls, but the singer of the song wants to be the one who walks in the sun and lives her life to the fullest. The final verses of the song repeat the chorus, emphasizing that girls just want to have fun, and that is all that really matters.
