Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.
Take Me Out
Kidz Bop Lyrics

I'm just a cross-hair, I'm just a shot away from you
And if you leave here, you leave me broken shattered I lie
I'm just a cross-hair, I'm just a shot then we can die
I know I wont be leaving here with you
I say, "Don't you know?"
You say, "You don't know"
I say, "You don't show"
Don't move time is slow
I say, "Take me out"
Well I say, "You don't know"
You say, "You don't go"
I say, "Take me out"
If I move this could die
And eyes move this could die
I want you to, to take me out
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here with you
Well I say, "Don't you know?"
You say, "You don't know"
I say, "Take me out"
If I wane this could die
I wait this could die
I want you to take me out
If I move this could die
Eyes move this can die
Come on, take me out
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here with you
The lyrics to Kidz Bop’s “Take Me Out” depict the singer’s desire for another person’s companionship. The singer acknowledges their own loneliness and the fact that the other person is within reach, metaphorically, like a crosshair or a shot away. The singer also recognizes that if the other person were to leave, they would be left “broken shattered” and lying on the ground, further emphasizing how crucial the other person’s presence is to them. However, despite their desperate plea, the singer knows deep down that their wishes will not be granted and that they will not be leaving with the other person.
The chorus of the song involves a call-and-response between the singer and the other person. The repeated refrain of “Take me out” signifies the singer’s need for action and the desire for the other person to make a move. The line “If I move, this could die” suggests that the singer is afraid to make a move themselves and is relying on the other person to take the lead. The repetition of “I know I won’t be leaving here with you” further emphasizes the singer’s resignation and acceptance of their inevitable fate, despite their intense longing for the other person.
Overall, the lyrics to “Take Me Out” depict the universal human experience of wanting companionship and connection, but also the fear and uncertainty that come with pursuing those desires.
