Their first 12" was released in 1998, followed by their debut CD, "This Is Just The Beginning" and "No Gimmicks Needed" LP on Blackout! Records the next year. The band subsequently signed to Side One Dummy Records and released two albums, "Funeral For A Feeling" in 2001 and "From Companionship To Competition" in 2005. KYI has also released quite a few EP's and split EP's including 2002's split with fellow LIHC band Crime In Stereo.
By January, 2006 the band had been together for ten years and celebrated by playing an anniversary show with friends Inhuman, Ensign, Two Man Advantage, Shell Shock and others at CBGB.
They disbanded in the May of 2007, playing their final show in a parking lot to 200-300 people, including many close friends. Local authorities shut down the originally intended last show after the audience far exceeded the venues capacity, and so it had to be moved last minute to a car park at a LI rehearsal studio.
Some members of the band founded Black Anvil.
Epilogue
Kill Your Idols Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In the song "Epilogue" by Kill Your Idols, the singer seems to be addressing an ex-partner who has left to begin a new life elsewhere. Although the singer expresses a wish for the ex-partner's success and happiness, there is a sense of bitter betrayal that runs throughout the song. The opening lines describe the ex-partner's departure as a violent act, with references to burning bridges and igniting gasoline. The singer notes that there is now no way back across that bridge, and warns of the dangers that await the ex-partner in their new life, such as steep cliffs and hungry sharks.
Despite the harsh language of the song, there is also a sense that the singer has come to terms with the end of the relationship. The chorus declares that the singer no longer wants or needs the ex-partner, and that the experience has made them stronger. The final lines of the song express a fragile hope that someone, somewhere, might possess the skills to cross the "tightened rope" that represents the challenges of any relationship.
Overall, "Epilogue" seems to be a song about the pain of letting go of someone you once loved, and the combination of anger and sadness that accompanies that process. It acknowledges that trust and loyalty are difficult to come by, but also suggests that there is always hope for a new connection.
