Their first 12" was released in 1998, followed by their debut CD, "This Is Just The Beginning" and "No Gimmicks Needed" LP on Blackout! Records the next year. The band subsequently signed to Side One Dummy Records and released two albums, "Funeral For A Feeling" in 2001 and "From Companionship To Competition" in 2005. KYI has also released quite a few EP's and split EP's including 2002's split with fellow LIHC band Crime In Stereo.
By January, 2006 the band had been together for ten years and celebrated by playing an anniversary show with friends Inhuman, Ensign, Two Man Advantage, Shell Shock and others at CBGB.
They disbanded in the May of 2007, playing their final show in a parking lot to 200-300 people, including many close friends. Local authorities shut down the originally intended last show after the audience far exceeded the venues capacity, and so it had to be moved last minute to a car park at a LI rehearsal studio.
Some members of the band founded Black Anvil.
Words Without Actions
Kill Your Idols Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Its an old cliché, that seems hard to swallow
One person makes a difference, most people think not
But I believe one person can accomplish a lot
This shit is getting played, but its not fucking dead
Lets cut through all the bullshit, its time to use our heads
The youth of today aren't turning shit around
Words without actions will quickly be ignored
If you're only in it for the fun, then there's the fucking door
Pick out a cause, do what you know is right
And if your backs against the wall, be prepared to fight
Take a stand for the things you think you need
Lead by example, the other will take heed
If you do what is right, your goals you might reach
It all starts out by standing up for what you believe
Its a movement about justice, don't matter how you dance
A movement about peace, get your head out of your ass
The lyrics of Kill Your Idols' song Words Without Actions speak to the idea of taking action in order to make a difference. The opening lines, "If the people would lead, the leaders will follow / Its an old cliché, that seems hard to swallow," allude to the fact that change does not necessarily come from the top down, but rather from the ground up. The singer believes that one individual can make a significant impact, despite the common belief that one person cannot bring about change. They call for action rather than simply words, and express fatigue with the same old refrain of empty promises.
The song goes on to challenge those who claim to be making a difference without actually doing anything. The lines "Words without actions will quickly be ignored / If you're only in it for the fun, then there's the fucking door" convey a sense of frustration with people who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. They urge listeners to pick a cause and fight for it, even if it means getting into a difficult situation. It's through standing up for what you believe that real change can come about.
Overall, the song highlights the need for action and the belief that one person can make a difference, while cautioning against empty words and a lack of follow-through. It's a call to arms for those who want to effect change in the world.
