Sugar
Killer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It ain't love leaving you
It's just the thought of it
So don't be a fool
You know there's more to this

Once you started speeding
And left the dust behind
You were let in on a secret
And it ain't worth the price

You lost a round, nothing's going down
You lost a round, so break down and cry (sugar)
Cry all thru the night (sugar)

So very entertaining
But you don't see the thrill

You go on complaining
When you're the one behind this

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Sugar" by The Killers speak to the experience of someone who has been let down in a romantic relationship. The opening lines suggest that it's not love that is causing the person's heartache, but rather the fantasy of what could have been. The singer urges the listener not to be fooled by their own desire for love, and reminds them that there is more to life than just romantic relationships.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become more confrontational. The listener is accused of being reckless and selfish, and of not fully understanding the consequences of their actions. There is a suggestion that the listener has been seeking thrills in their life and has lost touch with reality. The lyrics tell the listener to cry it out and face the fact that they have lost in love.

Overall, "Sugar" is a powerful and emotional song about heartbreak and the struggle to move on. It is a reminder that even the most intense feelings of love and devotion can fade, and that life goes on. The combination of driving guitar riffs, moody synth lines, and Brandon Flowers' passionate vocals create an intense and memorable listening experience.

I agree with this. I have had a love with sugar from the womb. My mother said she craved sweets (red twizzlers specifically) that she never normally did, and even went away after I was born.

I'm in decent health at 38, and I believe with sugar reform it can help benefit everyone.

I also liked that plan in action with the school children and teachers.

Sugar needs to be recognized as an actual "treat" instead of a routine occurrence.

As warning labels on alcohol and tobacco, so should be candy bars and other sweets. It's not extreme, it's decent.

Most people are not strongly self willed, so we must protect them, it's not about putting others down or saying they're weak, but we should look out for each other.

This documentary has convicted me about my sugar intake, and now I have to be more careful. But how much better if the food manufacturers looked out for us so we can mindlessly purchase our foods and not worry.
The candy companies need stop targeting people and especially children. Soft drinks too.

Imagine if all the companies who sell their products have your health and welfare in mind, AND as their top priority?

Even retailers with where the merchandise is located. We need reform.

Do we remember cigarette machines?
Pop in the quarters and pull out a pack? Oh that reminds me.. candy cigarettes! What a way to precondition the children to smoke!

Reform is a good thing, but truly it comes down to their profits, they want to make MORE and with reform they will make less.
It will be a battle, woe to them for engineering their profits at the expense of the health of Gods Heritage.

I had gout. The most pain you can imagine. Like a freshly broken bone day and night with no relief. I was weak, tired, lethargic. I got up in the morning wishing it was bedtime. Dreading the day ahead. I cut sugar. Went through a terrible withdrawal. Its hard. Its a drug. I came though strong as a bull. At the end of the day, after a hard day of work, I feel fresh physically as if I just got up in the morning. My mind is fit and clear like never before. I eat out sometimes. I have carbs. But I avoid all processed sugar as much as possible.

It's incredible that these documentaries are free and so easily available. Every one that I see, I say "This should be shown in all schools"

Totally agree! My mom always complained she looks old, and her skins not like what used to be, part of the reason bc she ate a lot of sugar, I told her to quit added sugar, she will see some changes, but she didn’t want to do it 😂
