A Bid Farewell
Killswitch Engage Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I will bid farewell
Sever the tie
This is all I am
This is all that's left
Turn from deceit
The love of self is death
To you
I will bid, farewell
Sever the ties
Server the ties
Now your heart beats
Black with deception
You have been forsaken
Leave behind (I will)
All reminders of you
Of you
I will bid farewell
To all lies
I will bid farewell
Sever the ties
Sever
Searching, always searching
Hoping for a change
I will never, be satisfied
I will never be
I will
I will never (never) be satisfied
(I will) I will now bid farewell
Oh
I will bid farewell
To all lies
I will bid farewell
Sever the ties (sever the ties)
The song "A Bid Farewell" by Killswitch Engage is a heavy and emotional reflection on severing ties with someone who has become toxic. The lyrics express the singer's determination to leave behind the deceit and love of self that has brought so much pain and heartache. The chorus emphasizes the need to bid farewell and sever all ties to the person for good. The verses contrast internal and external feelings; the verses describing the singer's own internal turmoil and the chorus describing the toxic person's deceit and betrayal. The middle section seems to express confusion and hopelessness about ever finding someone that is honest and genuine.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of defiance and strength. The singer is resolute in their decision to leave the past behind and will not be satisfied until they can move on. The repeated phrase "I will never be satisfied" reinforces this sentiment. The bridge section, "Searching, always searching, Hoping for a change" expresses the idea that moving on and severing ties can be difficult but that hope for a better future remains.
Overall, "A Bid Farewell" has a sense of catharsis to it, with the singer releasing their emotions and moving on to a better, healthier existence.
