Killswitch Engage Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When the vast skies don't seem to call to you
When the weight of this world bears down
And the stars have fallen like tears
I am with you always
From the darkness of night 'til the morning
I am with you always
Monuments built in remembrance of me
But monuments fade, erode and decay
The memories are all that remain (all that remain)
As far as east is from the west, remember
I am with you always
From the darkness of night until the morning
I am with you always
From life until death takes me
When hope seems lost down and lowly
I am here with you always
I am with you always
From the darkness of night
I am with you always
From the darkness of night until the morning
I am with you always
From life until death takes me
I am with you always
From life until death takes me
The lyrics to Killswitch Engage's song "Always" speak to the idea of loneliness and despair in times of struggle, loss, and pain. The first verse evokes a sense of isolation and despair when the world seems to bear down and the stars appear as tears. However, the chorus reassures the listener that in those moments, they are not alone. The phrase "I am with you always" is repeated and becomes a mantra that provides hope and comfort. The second verse speaks to the idea that we all desire to leave a lasting mark on the world through monuments or remembrances, but in the end, it is the memories we share with others that truly last. The final line of the verse - "As far as east is from the west, remember" - suggests that the memories we make can transcend time and space.
The chorus again reinforces the idea that even in moments of hopelessness, there is someone present, possibly even after death. The final bridge of the song - "When hope seems lost down and lowly, I am here with you always" - reminds the listener that even in their darkest hours, they are not alone.
In total, the lyrics of "Always" offer a message of comfort and hope that is much needed in difficult times. They suggest that memories of loved ones, and even the memory of their presence after death, can provide solace and support.

In these moments of loss and torment
During times of great pain and struggle
When the vast skies don't seem to call to you
When even the beauty of nature fails to comfort you
When the weight of this world bears down
When the burdens of life become unbearable
And the stars have fallen like tears
When everything around you seems to be falling apart
I am with you always
I will always be here for you
From the darkness of night 'til the morning
Through the darkest times until the dawn of a new day
From life until death takes me
I will be there for you as long as I live
Monuments built in remembrance of me
Even if physical reminders of me fade away
But monuments fade, erode and decay
And time wears away all things
The memories are all that remain (all that remain)
Our memories together will endure
As far as east is from the west, remember
No matter how far apart we may be
When hope seems lost down and lowly
During the most dire and hopeless of times
I am here with you always
I will be by your side
From the darkness of night
Through the longest and darkest of nights
Until the morning
Until the light of a new day emerges

I recently lost my youngest son. I have not been coping with it well. My wife, who has remained so strong through this process, showed this to me one day saying "He would have wanted you to hear this."
I might cry a little harder when I listen to this, but it's because I know he'll always be here sitting on my lap telling me about his day.

Powerful song. Damn. And Jesse has really developed his vocals. Not only is this song incredible, along with the album. But the fact that they've got Jesse back and returned with so much force is equally as powerful. What a lucky band to have such a great history. Past, present, and with certainty the same goes for their future.

I feel they have single handed made metal current again with the return of Jesse, for me anyway.

I'm 24, lost my mother 6 months ago. She was a brave, kind hearted and beautiful person...and my best friend. I miss her presence. I have always loved this song, right since 2013. Now though, it hits different with the vibe still reminiscent of the good times.
