Born Lakisha Robinson in Orlando, Florida, she spent part of her childhood in New Jersey prior to returning to Orlando and was briefly in a pop group called D'Angelz. She moved to New York, attended the Pratt Institute, and worked as a model and waiter.
Led by the dreamy "Navy," her first EP, Homeschool, was self-released in April 2012. A couple years later, after assorted collaborative work, she connected with the music wing of French fashion label Kitsuné for Across, another EP of atmospheric, slackened R&B. In 2015, she appeared on Etienne de Crécy's Super Discount 3 and Vince Staples' Summertime '06. Reflections in Real Time, a sprawling and deeply personal album that flitted between fully developed songs and fragmentary interludes, followed in February 2016.

Kilo Kish Lyrics

I'm drifting in and out
Sippin' my styrofoam cup
I finally decided I should make the first cut
Starting with you, you only bring me bad luck
San Fran I ran, nigga, god damn
Love doesn't mean nothing if
It doesn't have plans
If I describe to them what you mean to me
Back and forth, back and forth, what's worse?
Doing the same shit again is when
You get your chest murked
As far as I'm concerned you
Only dig me more dirt i mean my own grave
What the fuck am I saying?
I used to be smart when I did well in school
But now I feel lucky cause
I'm handcuffed to you
I'm finally free, said the greyhound to duke
Until I find where I'm going
Man at least I'm brand new no, that's good?
Take a seat, sit down and relax
Boy, boy, boy i'ma, I'mma put you on
To some facts boy, boy, boy
Take a, take-a take-a seat
Sit down and relax boy, boy, boy
I'ma, I'mma put you, I'ma, I'mma put you on
Boy, boy, boy
Girls hate it when you don't respond
Girls hate it when you live with mom
Girls hate it when your phone don't quit
Girls hate it when you're on some shit
Girls hate a guy with attitude
Girls hate a guy who's always rude
Girls hate a guy they can't believe
Girls like boys that fuck with me
Girls don't call when you act lame
Girls don't call when you play games
Girls don't call back at 4 am
Cause booty-calls ain't cool with them
Girls don't like sports on the low
Girls pretend to laugh at jokes
Girls just want something they can feel
Tangible, shit becomes real
Take a seat, sit down and relax
Boy, boy, boy i'ma, I'mma put you
I'ma, I'mma to some shit boy, boy, boy
Take a, take-a take-a
Take a, take a, take a seat boy, boy, boy
I'ma, I'mma put you i'ma, I'mma put you on
Boy, boy, boy
Oh, I forgot I was supposed to talk
The lyrics to Kilo Kish's song "BusBoy" explore themes of self-discovery, relationships, and societal expectations. In the first verse, she reflects on being on a bus, drifting in and out of consciousness while sipping from her styrofoam cup. She has made the decision to make a change in her life, starting with someone who has brought her bad luck. The references to San Francisco and running imply that she is trying to escape from a negative situation. She realizes that love is meaningless without plans and purpose. The blind seeing into eternity if she describes what the person means to her suggests that her feelings have a profound impact, even if others may not fully understand. The repetition of "back and forth" symbolizes the struggle and frustration of repeating the same mistakes over and over again, emphasizing the negative influence this person has had on her. She feels that she is digging her own grave by being involved with them.
The chorus further explores the dynamics of relationships, particularly the expectations and desires of girls. Kilo Kish points out that girls hate it when someone doesn't respond to them or still lives with their parents. They also dislike being ignored or dealing with someone who acts disrespectful or has a bad attitude. However, she believes that girls like boys who are attracted to her, suggesting that she possesses a certain power over them. She highlights the perceived hypocrisy in girls not wanting to be seen as a booty-call yet not appreciating late-night calls themselves. Furthermore, she notes that girls may only pretend to laugh at jokes and desire something real and tangible.
Overall, these lyrics depict Kilo Kish's journey towards self-discovery and her realization of the negative aspects of certain relationships. The repeated phrase "take a seat, sit down, and relax" implies that she is in control and ready to enlighten or educate others, particularly boys, about these facts. The song touches on the complexities and contradictions in relationships and the struggle to find genuine connections in a world of superficiality and expectations.
