Born Lakisha Robinson in Orlando, Florida, she spent part of her childhood in New Jersey prior to returning to Orlando and was briefly in a pop group called D'Angelz. She moved to New York, attended the Pratt Institute, and worked as a model and waiter.
Led by the dreamy "Navy," her first EP, Homeschool, was self-released in April 2012. A couple years later, after assorted collaborative work, she connected with the music wing of French fashion label Kitsuné for Across, another EP of atmospheric, slackened R&B. In 2015, she appeared on Etienne de Crécy's Super Discount 3 and Vince Staples' Summertime '06. Reflections in Real Time, a sprawling and deeply personal album that flitted between fully developed songs and fragmentary interludes, followed in February 2016.

let me out
this world is not prepared for some
if living here is healthy then
i should be all dressed again
shining up my shoes out front
i'm just waiting for my ride to come
get me now
i can't help
but think
i'm wasting time here
holding all my thoughts
and screams
inside this locket
i hope that you don't
find me changing face sometimes
peeling off the lashes stuck to my skin
patience always wearing thin
finding all my faith in dark
conflicted
winners always win but since
every now and then
losers get mixed in
now we wanna be number one
the way i think about it
i can't help
but think
i'm wasting time here
holding all my thoughts
and screams
inside this locket
i hope that you don't
drop them
in the gutter where you lost their files
in the gutter where the trash compiles
in the gutter where they cry for air
in the gutter where they understand
in the gutters' where the good times end
in the gutters' where the good times end
in the gutters' where the good times end
in the gutter with the good times
i don‘t wanna
don't wanna
be like you
i don't wanna
don't wanna
be like you
The song "Locket" by Kilo Kish explores themes of self-doubt, the pressure to conform, and the desire for recognition. The lyrics suggest an individual who feels trapped within their own thoughts and unable to express their true self to the world. The opening lines "the writings are upon the wall, press the like-a-button like 'em all" suggests a culture where social media reigns supreme and people are obsessed with approval, thus creating a toxic environment where individuals are expected to conform or risk being left out.
The lines "if living here is healthy then, I should be all dressed again, checking out shining up my shoes out front" suggest that the individual feels as if they do not belong in this world and are waiting for a way out. The phrase "holding all my thoughts and screams inside this locket" is a metaphor for the singer's feelings of being trapped and unable to express themselves. They hope that those around them do not see through their false facade and recognize their inner turmoil. The last verse, "in the gutter where the good times end" is a reference to the singer's fear of becoming lost and forgotten due to their inability to fit into societal norms.
One interpretation of the song posits that it is about the artist's own struggles with feeling like an outsider in the music industry. Kilo Kish has spoken about how the music industry can be exclusive and difficult to navigate, which is reflected in the lines "conflicted, winners always win but since every now and then losers get mixed in, now we wanna be number one." It is suggested that Kilo Kish is speaking from personal experience when she writes about how the industry can make artists feel as if they are wasting their time or not good enough.

How is she not bigger? She is gold. I love the fact the most of her songs have the beats in the front and her voice is just a cherry on top. Not to mention, I saw Mike G and Syd Tha Kyd in the video. She does songs with Childish Gambino.
