Born Lakisha Robinson in Orlando, Florida, she spent part of her childhood in New Jersey prior to returning to Orlando and was briefly in a pop group called D'Angelz. She moved to New York, attended the Pratt Institute, and worked as a model and waiter.
Led by the dreamy "Navy," her first EP, Homeschool, was self-released in April 2012. A couple years later, after assorted collaborative work, she connected with the music wing of French fashion label Kitsuné for Across, another EP of atmospheric, slackened R&B. In 2015, she appeared on Etienne de Crécy's Super Discount 3 and Vince Staples' Summertime '06. Reflections in Real Time, a sprawling and deeply personal album that flitted between fully developed songs and fragmentary interludes, followed in February 2016.
On the Way
Kilo Kish Lyrics

Still my windows are fogging up?
I don't want one more try
My engine's rattling in the dust
Guess i'm stuck
All the space that i could want
Still drown in what's to come
And where i've been
And i'm too real to pretend
Just on the way to you
(You)
On the way to you
On the way to you
On the way
To you
To you
On and on and on
Staring down this endless road
And it's getting dark
Walking blind
Still don't know how i got this far
You were there before
Felt a whisper
Ran for more
But got turned around
And i can't tell where i've been
It all just blends
Just me on this road again
(I'm just)
On the way to you
On the way to you
On the way
To you
To you
On and on and on
I'm alone here with you!
I'm alone
Without
I'm just
Here
On the way to you
On the way to you
On the way
To you
To you
On and on and on
Kilo Kish's "On The Way" is a song in which the artist expresses her sense of confusion and uncertainty about her journey towards a particular destination, which happens to be a person or a place that she desires to see. In the song, Kish talks about feeling stuck and unable to move forward, despite having all the space she needs to move. She mentions her engine rattling in the dust, which could be a metaphor for her being unable to continue moving forward due to internal struggles. She seeks to connect with the person or place she is journeying towards but is unsure of where she has been and where she is headed next.
The artist uses imagery to describe the road that she is on. She describes it as an endless road, one that she is staring down and unable to navigate. As the night approaches and darkness envelops her, she becomes more and more lost, wandering aimlessly on the road without a clear sense of direction. Despite her longing to connect with the person or place she is journeying to, all she can feel is a sense of loneliness and isolation.
The chorus of the song sees Kilo Kish repeatedly stating that she is on the way to see this person or place, and that she is alone. This repetition could signify the artist's intense longing to reach her destination, despite not having a clear understanding of how to get there. Throughout the song, Kish uses powerful imagery and metaphor to describe her profound sense of isolation, confusion, and longing.
