Slip Away
Kim Boekbinder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Slip away, slip away
From my side.
If you don't slip away
I might keep you for all time

Others before have fallen,
Been left behind,
But not you,
You're here just in time,
Just in time.

Slip away, slip away
If I say it's you.

If you don't slip away
It might be true.

Others before have tried,
It's always been a lie,
But not you,
You're here just in time,
Just in time.

Slip away, slip away...
Slip away, slip away...

Overall Meaning

The song Slip Away by Kim Boekbinder explores the bittersweet feeling of wanting someone to stay with you, but knowing that it may not be the best thing for them. The chorus repeatedly urges the person to "slip away" from the singer's side, as if to say that they should not feel obligated to stay just because the singer wants them to. The singer acknowledges that others before have fallen and been left behind, but they claim that this person is different – they are here "just in time."

The second verse suggests that the singer may be internally struggling with their feelings for this person. They admit that if this person doesn't slip away, it might be true that they should stay together. However, the singer also acknowledges that others before have tried to stay, but it "has always been a lie." It seems as though the singer is grappling with the idea of what is best for this person - should they stay and risk being hurt or should they slip away and potentially miss out on a great thing?
