English experienced a great deal of success on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts, beginning in the mid-nineties and continuing into the 21st century. Her first chart entry came in 1995 and was a minor hit ("I Know a Place," a US #32). Between 1999 to 2007, she scored eight hit singles in a row that hit the top two, five of those went to number one: "Unspeakable Joy", "Missing You", "Bumpin' and Jumpin'", "Everyday" and "Treat Me Right", "It Makes A Difference", "C'est La Vie" and "My Destiny." Most of them have received moderate to high rotation on Rhythmic/Dance format radio stations. The "Higher Things" album also features an excellent cover of Anita Baker's hit song, "Been So Long."
English's album titled, "My Destiny" was released in 2006.
All of her hits were released on Nervous Records NYC. Her later singles included "Nothing's Impossible" (2009) and "The Only One" (2011).
C'est la vie

People reaching for the status quo
Others wanting what some others have-
And still the few who take a different path
What you do, who you are
Makes you unique and beautiful by far
So there's never reason to compare
Refrain:
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
Into all our lives some rain must fall
But we can keep our heads up through it all
If by chance we slip and hit the ground
Work to rise again - do not stay down
Keep movin', keep goin'
The hardest part is behind you now
With every step you take just do your best
Don't give up and you will pass each test
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
And so it is the life we live
Yes there's ups and downs
Throughout the life I've found
Can't let it keep me down
Again I will abound
Refrain:
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
What matters most in life is how we live-
Do we close our hands or do we give?
Love our neighbors as we love ourselves,
Sacrifice our time for someone else
Keep living, keep growing
Let every day be a lesson learned
When at first I do not find success
Know my time will shine, I will possess
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
When you're hot, you're hot
When you're not, you're not.
Give it all you got
And you'll find a way to make it through
Straight from your heart
You'll know you've done you're part
Between you and God
And the rest will be ‘c'est la vie'
The lyrics of Kim English's "C'est La Vie" talk about the various struggles people face on this planet, their strive for status quo, and the importance of being true to oneself. The song is a message of hope and encouragement that no matter what situation one is in, they can always rise above it and live their best life. The message is clear, comparing oneself to others is futile, and the only person one should be competing against is oneself. The song encourages people to keep going, to keep growing, and to always look for the lesson in every experience.
The lyrics of the song remind us of the ups and downs of life, and that even when we encounter difficult times, we should keep moving forward. The song is about resilience, rising from every fall and never giving up. We are encouraged to love and sacrifice for others and to live each day as though it’s a lesson learned. The song tells us that life is a journey and that we should give it our all, and no matter what happens, we should always strive to make the best of it.
