Logan arose… Read Full Bio ↴Kim Logan is an American indie rock artist from Florida.
Logan arose from the swamps and beaches of Sarasota, Florida after a decade in the opera industry to write songs and make records in Nashville. The fourth generation in an old-world entertainment industry family including broadcasters, classical and jazz musicians, songwriters, musical theatre mavens, and television producers, Kim followed the genetic path and first pursued a degree in performance and songwriting at the Berklee College of Music. After two strange years in the icy twilight zones of the Boston and Brooklyn music scenes, Kim headed back south.
Now completing her degree at Belmont University’s Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, Kim flexes her artistic muscles in every medium of art imaginable. In addition to the release of her debut self-titled record, Kim has penned a guest editorial for Lockeland Springsteen, consulted on and served as muse for a collection by fashion designer Rachel Hesse, and collaborated with filmmaker Trillbee the Hooligan on her music video for “Black Magic Boy.”
With education and passion spanning from Puccini to Hank Williams Sr. to Led Zeppelin, Kim’s music combines the theatrics of opera and vaudeville with the sex, drugs, and darkness of 20th century southern music. Kim met Gaelen Mitchell, her drummer, producer, and partner in crime, in a ditch in East Nashville one Halloween, and together they started a band. Now, teamed with bassist Ron Marsh and versatile bluesman Gyasi Heus on guitar, Kim takes her musical experience on the road.
The diverse and compelling songs on her debut album were written over the course of her first two years living in Nashville. They were recorded at Ocean Way on the famed Music Row, and at Electric Kite Studios in East Nashville – there is blood, sweat, and Miller High Life in every second of the recordings, and Kim returns to the studio this spring to start on her second record.
From the delta blues to the psychedelic ‘60s, from the golden years of classic country to the perfect rock & roll of mid-century Britain, Kim illustrates her roots through her original music. In the dark and mysterious gentleman’s club of rock & roll, Kim is the new queen.

I loved down in New Orleans
He wrecked my car he spun me out of style
He said "I love you girl, I′d give you this world
But all I got's the streets
This is Louisiane, I ain′t made to reconcile"
And he said, "Go on get, this ain't meant
To last much past tonight
You′re a silver spoon, I'm a spade
You′re a pocket pistol, I'm a sling blade"
And since that day I′ve been learning how to fight
So I tied up my laces, and I counted out ten paces
I turned and drew, and knew I'd hit my mark
And now it′s plain to see that all my life, my men and me
We've been dueling in the dark, just dueling in the dark
Now there's a long-legged boy like Gene and Roy
I love up in Tennessee
Campfire meets saltwater, wild west meets the east
He said, "I love you girl, I′d give you this world
But a poor boy′s got to eat
This here's a man′s world, and I'm the one to beat
You′re a silver spoon, I'm a spade
You′re a pocket pistol, I'm a sling blade
And all y'all girls can do anyway is cheat"
So I tied up my laces and I counted out ten paces
I turned and drew, and knew I′d hit my mark
And now it′s plain to see that all my life, my men and me
We've been dueling in the dark, just dueling in the dark
Yeah he said "Go on get, this ain′t meant
To last much past tonight
Yeah go on get, this ain't meant
Baby this ain′t right"
The song "Dueling In The Dark" narrates the story of a woman who has had two separate love affairs with men from different places: New Orleans and Tennessee. The first verse introduces a man from New Orleans who is a "honey brown man with a bayou tan". She loves him, but their relationship is complicated. He has wrecked her car and spun her out of style. Although he tells her he loves her and would give her the world, he admits that all he has is the streets. The woman understands that their relationship is not meant to last long, and the man tells her to leave. He describes their social and economic differences by telling her she is a "silver spoon" and he is a "spade." She is a "pocket pistol," and he is a "sling blade." The woman has been learning how to fight since that day, and now she is dueling in the dark.
The second verse describes the woman's encounter with a long-legged boy from Tennessee. Although she loves him, he admits that he is poor and must eat to survive. He tells her that this is a man's world, and he is the one to beat. Once again, the man tells her that he is a "spade," and she is a "silver spoon." He considers her and her friends to be cheats. Like the previous man, this man says that the relationship is not meant to last long. The woman ties up her laces and counts out ten paces. She turns and draws her gun, knowing that she has hit her mark. She has been dueling in the dark with her men all her life.
