Come Around
Kim Richey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't miss the good old days
I've learned a lot since then
I've changed my ways
I'm not bothered by those things that used to get me down
On the wind come around

I don't carry much regret
We all hold something that we'd just assume forget
I remember like it was to date
The love we found
Everytime you come around
Everytime you come around

Well I'm the first to see I should
Forget you and I wish I could
Sometimes wishes don't come true

Does it seem too much to ask?
To live a life that isn't caught up in the past?
But there's really no place else on Earth
I need right now
I wish you'd come around

I wish you'd come around
Why don't you come around

Overall Meaning

In "Come Around" Kim Richey reflects on the changes she`s made and accepts growth, development, and change as a natural human experience. She warns against being caught up in past hurts, regrets, and holding on to grudges. Richey is proud of her growth and the new person she's become, emphasizing that she's not bothered by the things that used to weigh her down. She welcomes new beginnings when she sings "On the wind come around".

Richey acknowledges that everyone carries a burden, some kind of regret they would rather forget. However, she chooses to focus on the love she found, which brings hope that life can get better. Whenever the person she`s singing to "comes around" and she remembers the love they found, she's filled with a renewed sense of hope and gratitude. Richey admits that it can be hard to move on from a past relationship, and sometimes the desire doesn't come true. She implores the other to "come around," perhaps hoping for the opportunity to relive old memories with a new and positive perspective.

Overall, "Come Around" is a song about self-reflection, acceptance, and hope about moving forward. Richey's lyrics display an understanding that it's okay to look back on the past but that dwelling on it can stunt growth and progress. The song leaves listeners with a sense of longing to move forward to better things while still holding on to some of the good memories from the past.

Such a hauntingly beautiful song.

Lots of memories with this song. Late 90's and I was going through a breakup with a gf that was a few years older, but someone I fell head over heels for. Even today, and being married, this song touches those feelings of melancholy that I still have for that season of my life.

Haunting, beautiful, full of sorrow, lounging. Richey sings it like she knows how it feels to be shattered and have to pick up pieces. Think you are OK, and suddenly something takes you back to that time of hope and love and you still feel the ache of that old wound. Even today after more than 20 years this song can take me back.

Charlene Estes I couldn't agree more. This song evokes so much feelings of melancholy and yearning for past love.

@VenusInPisces I first heard it on the radio at work.It hit me like a ton of bricks. It speaks so much of the quiet, desperate loneliness that one is consciously aware of when someone in their life has moved on to other people and places.Leaving the writer to ponder what was missing and why they can't find the tools they need to rekindle the former attraction. I am sure many of us have been on both sides of that equation. Thank You for taking the time to respond to me.
