It's Alright
Kimberley Locke Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She was so attractive
Her parents so protective
Met a little boy with a Lexus
They made out on a mattress
She thought he loved her
But now he don't even bother
Had a little baby named Donna
But Donna ain't got no father

Seventeen, candy curls
All they saw was a dumb young girl
Spend a little dough, talk a little game
Look what that got you babe

She was young and she didn't know
All they play on the radio
All they show on the video
How could she say no

(Chorus)
It's all right, it's okay
You ain't gotta explain a thing to me
I know what it's like lookin' for someone to love
It's okay, it's all right
You can come stay with me tonight
You can cry on my shoulder
So baby just come on over

It's all right
It's all right

Brenda lived in Michigan
Always seemed a little different
Met another girl at the college
And came out of the closet
All her friends she had before
They don't come around no more
She feels so abandoned
Won't even leave her apartment

Hates her life, hates herself
Just wants to be like everybody else
Can't go home, can't go home
What will they say
She went away

She was young and innocent
She gave in to prejudice
No one came to her defense
Haven't seen her since

(Chorus)

It's all right, it's okay
It's okay, it's all right

It's okay if you wanna stay
It's all right if you wanna go
My arms are open wide
I just gotta let you know
No matter what they say I'm gonna stay right by your side
I'll be right there for you
Everything's gonna be all right
All right

(Chorus)

It's okay, it's all right
You can cry on my shoulder

Overall Meaning

Kimberley Lockeโ€™s โ€œItโ€™s Alrightโ€ tells two stories about young women struggling through difficult situations. The first verse is about a teenage girl who is attractive but overprotected by her parents. She meets a boy with a car and they hook up but the boy leaves her and the baby she has is fatherless. The second verse is about Brenda, a girl who comes out as a lesbian and loses all her friends as a result. She hates her life and herself and doesnโ€™t leave her apartment. The chorus is Lockeโ€™s message of support to these women, letting them know that everything will be alright and they can come to her for comfort.

The song highlights the struggles of young women in society and the pressure they face to fit into certain molds or expectations. The first girl was sexually used and then abandoned, while the second girl was ostracized for being different. The chorus repeats the phrase โ€œItโ€™s okay, itโ€™s alright,โ€ reminding them that their experiences are valid and that they are not alone. The song acknowledges that these situations are tough to deal with, but it encourages the women to come out of their shells and seek comfort and support from others.

WOOOOOO THIS IS GOOD!! GIVE IT THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES!

Little Tut

Always been to me, one of the best singers out there with out all of the fluff and auto tunes and cursing and vulgar. I think Kimberly could write for country/country rock singers. Her songs are pure and have real meaning. :)

Nick Aguilera

I had forgotten her for some time, now I've just remembered her existence and realised the much she's underrated!!.I like her voice, she's pretty good and pity her music isn't played here in Argentina on local radios ๐Ÿ˜ข

spiraljoe1273

Shame she didn't have the hunger to pursue singing after Idol - I still think this single is one of the best Idol alumni singles to hit the airwaves and she is gorgeous and has a great voice.

Louis King

I totally forgot about this sweetheart. Never listened to her music too much but I seen her on Celebrity Fit Club. Love her personality.

Skip Smith

Dayuum This gal is amazing

For sure whatever reason I imagine this song with country production instead of the pop production. It has that vibe in the lyrics. I could totally see a female country artist covering this and having a hit. Would be awesome to have a new AI contestant auditions with this song since it appears vocally challenging.
