The Christmas Song
Kimberley Locke Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you!
Kimberley Locke's version of "The Christmas Song" starts off with the classic opening lines that most people associate with Christmas: "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose." These lines give a beautiful picture of a cozy night by the fireplace while outside it's freezing. Then, the song talks about the tradition of celebrating Christmas with carols sung by a choir and getting dressed up in warm, cozy clothing.
The second verse of the song speaks to the excitement of Christmas with the mention of turkey and mistletoe, as well as the anticipation of Christmas morning for children. It builds up to the moment when Santa Claus will come with his sleigh filled with toys and candies, and it describes the eagerness of every child to see the reindeer's flying skills.
Later in the song, Kimberley Locke offers a simple phrase "Merry Christmas to you," which carries so much weight and significance, as it's a sincere wish from the singer to everyone. Although it's been said many times, many ways, the sentiment is always heartfelt.
