Goldmine
Kimbra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Move you can't touch it with your two hands
You can't find it with the third eye
I've been thirsting in the mud lands
For a well, it can't run dry, oh
Passed down to me through the wind
And in the silence of the white sound
It's always hidden in the dark night
Dug up from the cold ground

But it goes over the heart, and over the head
Over and above all the words they said
Be still my heart
Be still my head

'Cause I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
Sweep through the brimstone, peek through the fire
Nobody can touch this gold of mine

And it's burning in the furnace
And the fire in the third eye
No you won't find it on the surface
It rises out of the war cry

This goes over the heart, over the head
Go and get past all the words they said
Be still in your heart
Still in your head

'Cause I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
Sweep through the brimstone, peek through the fire
Nobody can touch this gold of mine

They're all runnin' to the gold rush
They're all runnin' to the river
Hey, don't speak loud, keep it hushed
'Cause we about to be delivered, ooh

'Cause I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
I got a goldmine, it's all mine
Nobody can touch this gold of mine
Sweep through the brimstone, peek through the fire
Nobody can touch this gold of mine

I got a goldmine
I got a goldmine

Overall Meaning

Kimbra’s song Goldmine appears to be centered on the singer’s possession of a deeply personal and unique form of wealth, which she describes as being hidden and only accessible through a spiritual or symbolic third eye. While others may be searching for more traditional treasures in the form of gold, Kimbra seems to find something much more valuable in her innermost self. The lyrics suggest that the goldmine is not something that can be seen or touched, but is instead something that is felt and experienced internally.

I really think the people who thought this album wouldn't be as good as Vows were crazy. The Golden Echo is so rich with sounds so intricate and if they can't appreciate what Kimbra has done with this then they don't know what they are missing out on.

Helene Logan

Chyna Deveroux Totally agree--the album is different than Vows, yes, but people who wanted Kimbra to remain stuck in a certain space (and Vows doesn't do that anyway!) don't really seem to understand her motivations. The Golden Echo just gets better and better on repeated listenings.

+Chyna Deveroux personally i just liked the aesthetic of vows better than this. This album is by no means bad or subpar, it's amazing i just really liked the way vows was presented it was gorgeous to me

Chyna Deveroux

Meggy de Jong And that's cool, but I'm talking about a specific group of people that don't realize that second albums usually vary greatly from the first of artists like Kimbra

+Chyna Deveroux I think the production on this album is definitely slicker, and it's still very creative, but I think the songwriting is less innovative and original than on "Vows".
