One More Red Nightmare
King Crimson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pan american nightmare
Ten thousand feet fun-fair
Convinced that I don't care
It's safe as houses I swear
I was just sitting musing
The virtues of cruising
When altitude dropping
My ears started popping
One more red nightmare

Sweat beginning to pour down
My neck as I turn round
I heard fortune shouting
Get off of this outing

A farewell swan song
See you know how turbulence can be
The stewardess made me
But the captain forbid me
One more red nightmare

Reality stirred me
My angel had heard me
The prayer had been answered
A reprieve has been granted

The dream was now broken
Though rudely awoken
Really safe and sound

Asleep on the greyhound
One more red nightmare

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "One More Red Nightmare" by King Crimson tell the story of a person who is on a plane, flying at a high altitude. The individual is initially relaxed and carefree, enjoying the experience of cruising through the sky. Suddenly, there is a drop in altitude, and the person becomes anxious and scared. They hear the voice of fortune telling them to get off the plane but are not allowed to do so. The plane experiences turbulence, and the person's worst nightmare becomes a reality. However, in the end, the person is relieved to wake up from the dream and find themselves safely on a bus.

On a deeper level, the lyrics may have a broader commentary on the powerlessness of individuals in the face of forces beyond their control. The dream-like structure of the song suggests a sense of disorientation and confusion, mirroring the feeling of losing control in a situation.

Only Bill could take an off-brand ride and a broken cymbal and absolutely tear it up.

@bryngillings8941

His drumming really puts the metal in metal in this song

@aakkoin

Was it a stack? Two or more cymbals stacked on another is called "a stack" and every hipster drummer uses stacks these days. I think Bruford invented it in this song and used better than anyone since.

@jasperjenkins7729

@@aakkoin the trashy cymbal he Literally found in the trash can in the studio. Its actually not a Stack. It's a piece of junk that found it's way under an AMAZING player.
