Lord I'm Coming Home
King Dude Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's ain't no sense in lyin'
I know that I'm dyin' my friend.
My body is leavin'
I know death is reeling me in
I can see all your faces
And feel your good graces within.
My spirit is soarin'
Although my old body won't mend.

Tattered up pages
And the wisdom of sages won't help.
There ain't a cure
for a place so impure I don't doubt.
I'm sorry to leave you
But know that old death ain't the end
I will see you in the Kingdom of Light
When our souls meet again.

Chorus: x2
O, Lord x3
I'm coming home to you Lord.

Hold my old hand
And I'll kiss you like when we were young.
My spirits alive
I ain't leavin' til my song is sung.
I can hear that old devil
Lickin' at the air with his tongue.
My Lord will cut him in half
As I hang from the rungs.

We've been on a path
That has left us with laughter and cheer.
I wouldn't trade nothin'
For what we have done in our years.
So call off the dogs
Let?
And tell 'em I'm here
Cause my spirit is yours
And I'll love you forever my dear.

Chorus: x2

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to King Dude's song "Lord I'm Coming Home" are a lamentation of a dying man who is ready to leave his earthly body behind and enter the Kingdom of Light. The first verse reflects the acceptance of his imminent death and the detachment from his physical body. He can see the faces of his loved ones, and he feels their presence even though his body won't heal. The second verse reveals that the man had sought solace in wisdom and books, but nothing could prepare him for death's finality. He expresses his sorrow at leaving his dear ones, but with reassurance that this isn't the end. He shall meet them in the Kingdom of Light.

The chorus repeats thrice, declaring the man's intent to come home to the Lord. In the third verse, the dying man wants his dear one to hold his hand and kisses him as he did when they were young. His unbroken spirit refuses to leave until his song is fully sung. He acknowledges the devil, baying for his soul, but with faith in his Lord's protection. The last part is an expression of gratitude for the joy and laughter they have shared on this journey called life. The man implores his dear one to call off any threats and welcome him to his Lord's embrace.
