For the first few years of his career, Jammy almost exclusively made Dub. In the 1980s, he became one of the most influential producers of dancehall music.
His biggest hit was 1985's "(Under Me) Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith, with an entirely-digital rhythm hook.
Many credit this song as being the first "Digital rhythm" in reggae, leading to the modern dancehall era.

Killer riddim! Known as Open the Gate/Bobby Bower, originally done (?) by Well Pleased and Satisfied from 1975. This 1982-ish Sly & Robby recut produced by Jammy was used for Noel 'Echo Minott' Phillips' "Youthman" (not Horace Andy). Other versions include Roy Ranking & Raymond Napthali-"Brixton Incident" and Sassafras and Charlie Chaplin-"Baby Mother". There's a dubbier mix with more reverb on the drums of this cut on Jammy's "Strickly Dub" LP called "Immigrant Dub".
