In 2013, while still a teenager, Marshall released the first King Krule album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, on XL in the U.K. and True Panther in the U.S. Marshall then collaborated with his brother Jack for the relatively fluid, more electronic A New Place 2 Drown. Released in 2015 and credited to Archy Marshall, its physical edition was packaged with a 208-page book of poetry, photography, and art. King Krule fully reactivated in 2017 with a handful of varied singles -- the dreamlike ballad "Czech One," the mid-tempo rocker "Dum Surfer," and the rumbling "Half Man Half Shark," all featuring saxophone from Ignacio Salvadores -- that led up to The Ooz, an hour-long follow-up written during a three-year period.
Borderline

My feelings just can't discard
The way in which I fell into
Your heart was never what I once knew
Lately my skull has kept
Dividing line, deep set and paved
Two paths too wonderful to depart
And several desires to pursue
And the soul chokes
To cause the tide
To enforce divide
This whole devotion has morphed in time
I'll escort her mind to solve my crimes
Reach slow motion to con the mind
See here I trace my steps
To where my senses left
And rain had turn my sense to mush
This slowly seeping straight through the crust
Now let these stains of gunk slip down
To where my head once sunk and drowned
Just await for a while to see
My body has merged to the deep cruel sea
But my soul floats
Adrift thoughtless minds, distorted lines
The soul is broken down, border lines
To cause the tide, to enforce divide
This whole devotion has morphed in time
I'll escort her mind to solve my crimes
Reach slow motion, con the mind
So scorn divine and mourn the pride
This cold has spoken, draw the line
In "BorderLine," King Krule sings about a relationship that has become complicated and difficult to navigate. He reflects on his feelings, indicating that he has tried hard to make them go away but hasn't succeeded. The way he fell in love with this person was unexpected and not what he had anticipated, leading to a division within himself between two paths that he can't seem to choose. He has several desires that he wants to follow, but his skull keeps dividing which path to take.
The soul chokes, enforcing the divide, and this whole devotion has changed with time, causing him to morph into something else. He speaks of waiting for a while to see his body merging into the deep cruel sea while his soul floats. His soul is broken down alongside the borderlines. He asks to scorn divine and mourn the pride, acknowledging that this cold has spoken, eventually drawing a line.
Overall, "BorderLine" is a song about feeling conflicted and trapped in an unhealthy relationship. The lyrics contain lots of imagery that helps to paint a picture of the emotional turmoil the singer is feeling, making it quite relatable for anyone who has gone through a similar situation.

You know I tried so hard
I did everything I could
My feelings just can't discard
I can't just ignore how I feel
The way in which I fell into
The way I fell in love with you
Your heart was never what I once knew
I didn't expect you to be this way
Lately my skull has kept
Recently my mind has been consumed by
Dividing line, deep set and paved
A clear separation between two paths
Two paths too wonderful to depart
Both choices are equally great
And several desires to pursue
But I have many things I want to do
And the soul chokes
I feel suffocated
To cause the tide
To make things different
To enforce divide
To create separation
This whole devotion has morphed in time
My love for you has changed
I'll escort her mind to solve my crimes
I'll help you understand why I'm feeling this way
Reach slow motion to con the mind
Take your time to process everything
See here I trace my steps
I try to remember how I got here
To where my senses left
To the point where I lost control
And rain had turn my sense to mush
And I was overwhelmed with emotions
This slowly seeping straight through the crust
I couldn't stop the feelings from taking over
Now let these stains of gunk slip down
I need to let go of the past
To where my head once sunk and drowned
And move on from the things that hurt me
Just await for a while to see
I need to give myself time to heal
My body has merged to the deep cruel sea
I've gone through a lot of pain and suffering
But my soul floats
But I'm still alive
Adrift thoughtless minds, distorted lines
Lost and confused
The soul is broken down, border lines
I feel shattered inside
So scorn divine and mourn the pride
Stop pretending and face the truth
This cold has spoken, draw the line
It's time to make a decision about our relationship

You know I tried so hard
My feelings just can’t discard
The way in which I fell into
Your heart was never what I once knew
Lately my skull has kept
Dividing lines deep set and paved
Two paths too wander through to depart
And sever desires to pursue
And the soul chokes
To cause the tide
To enforce divide
This whole devotion has morphed in time
I’ll escort her mind to solve my crimes
Reach slow motion to con the mind
See here I trace my steps
To where my senses left
And rain had turn my sense to mush
This slowly seeping straight through the crust
Now let these stains of gunk slip down
To where my head once sunk and drowned
Just await for a while to see
My body has merged to the deep krule sea
But my soul floats
Adrift thoughtless minds, distorted lines
The soul is broken down, borderlines
To cause the tide, to enforce divide
This whole devotion has morphed in time
I’ll escort her mind to solve my crimes
