Eating People
King Missile Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(spoken)
I think it's all right to eat other people, as long as they've been properly canned. So in the future, when we think we're eating soy, but it turns out we're actually eating people, well â?? I'll be okay with that, Charlton Heston, I'll be able to live with that. As long as the people are packaged under sanitary conditions.

I'm a vegetarian now, but I'm willing to make an exception in the event I'm presented with people. Because I've always been fairly standoffish; I have this tendency not to get to know people very well. And I don't think there is any better way to get to know humanity than to ingest it.

(sung)
Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, and eating legs

Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, eating legs
Eating heads, eating necks

(spoken)
Now, I'm not saying I wanna eat people. I've heard they taste like pork, and I've never been a big fan of pork. I'm saying, if someone is gonna go through all the trouble of preparing it for me, and tricking me into eating it by telling me it's an incredible soy substitute with a lot more nutrients, let's say, and so I ate it, and it turned out to be quite delicious, and then I found out that it was somebody, maybe even somebody I knew â?? then I'm not gonna be all that upset. I mean, yeah, maybe I'll be upset that the person is dead. I mean, if it was somebody I liked.

But I think it would make sense â?? if I ate something and liked it, and then found out that the something I ate and liked was a part of a person who I'd liked as a person, before I had eaten them â?? I think I'd be all right with that. I think that would be fine. I think that might even be a good thing.

(sung)
Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, and eating legs

Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, eating legs (Eating people, holding hands)
Eating heads, eating necks

Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, and eating legs

Eating people, holding hands
Eating hands, holding people
Eating feet, eating legs
Eating heads, eating necks

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to King Missile's song "Eating People" suggest that it would be okay to eat other people under certain conditions. The singer expresses that if people were properly canned and packaged under sanitary conditions, they would be willing to consume human flesh. They also argue that eating people could be a way to truly understand and get to know humanity. The song goes on to list various body parts that could be consumed, and the singer even suggests that they would be willing to eat people they knew if they were misled into thinking it was a soy substitute.

The lyrics of this song are intentionally provocative and meant to shock listeners. The singer's arguments are ultimately absurd and can be seen as a commentary on the moral ambiguity of human behavior. The juxtaposition of the upbeat, catchy melody with the disturbing lyrics adds to the unsettling nature of the song. It also serves to underscore the idea that people's outward appearances and actions can be deceiving.

This is so beautiful.... I mean clearly the vocalist is a bit different.... But his voice has that beauty in which he could tell you that the sky is purple, and you'd believe him, at least for a little while.

Not only an amazing sense of humor, and very insightful, but talented musicians as well... Actually got me contemplating what it would be like if that delicious soy burger I ate at lunch turned out to be my best friend... Maybe if someone told me like a week later it totally wouldn't bother me.
