After first earning notice thanks to a series of acclaimed European festival appearances during the summer of 1999, the twosome signed to American label Kindercore to issue their lovely eponymous debut the following spring. Quiet Is the New Loud was issued in early 2001 on Astralwerks. The album used many of the same tracks from the Kindercore release but re-ordered them and replaced a few with newer songs. The remix album Versus followed later in the year and featured remixes by artists as diverse as Ladytron, avid Whitaker and Four Tet. After a three year layoff during which Øye recorded a solo album, 2003's Unrest, and gained some reknown as an electronica DJ while Bøe worked on finishing up his psychology degree, the pair teamed up again for the recording and release of 2004's Riot on an Empty Street.
After a 5 year layoff, the band released Declaration Of Dependence on October 20, 2009 on Astralwerks in the US and Virgin Records in the UK.
Erlend Øye has released some solo material and is also a member of The Whitest Boy Alive.
Eirik Glambek Bøe is also a member of a second band, Kommode. The Whitest Boy Alive and Kommode toured together this year for a short period.
Live Long
Kings of Convenience Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Weaving sunlight threads in his hands
The golden river that day a shelter
A stream where he could make pebbles dance
You looked around you, nobody had taken
Any notice of what you saw
Against the evening sky, a formation
A million black birds looking like one
Live long, save ten years to remember
Live long, hold it in front of your eyes once more
Live long, save ten years to remember
Live long, hold it in front of your eyes
The lyrics of Kings of Convenience's song "Live Long" portray an idyllic scene of a summer child playing by the water, weaving threads of sunlight in his hands. The golden river provides a safe haven where he can make pebbles dance, as the translucent stream glistens in the sun. However, despite the beauty of his surroundings, nobody seems to have taken notice of what he sees. In the evening sky, the child witnesses a flock of a million black birds forming a mesmerizing formation, resembling a single entity.
The song moves on to the chorus where the title phrase "Live Long" is repeated several times, followed by the words "save ten years to remember" and "hold it in front of your eyes." These seemingly simple words contain a profound message about cherishing the fleeting moments of life and holding on to precious memories. The song emphasizes the importance of living in the present and enjoying every moment, while also preserving memories to relive them in the future.
Overall, "Live Long" by Kings of Convenience is a beautiful, poetic song that conveys a powerful message of living life to the fullest and cherishing memories. The lyrics are masterfully crafted and paired with gentle, soothing music, making for a truly captivating listening experience.
