Beautiful War
Kings of Leon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bite your tongue
Don't make a scene dear
Everybody's been here
At least once before
But we've been here more

Your heartbreak
Rolls down the window
I've seen it all go
Comeback around
I've heard the sound

The tip of your tongue
The top of your lungs
Is doing my head in

I say love
Don't mean nothing
'Less there's something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war

When I hold
The warmth of your body
There is nobody
That I'd rather hold
Shattered and cold

The tip of your tongue
The top of your lungs
Is making me crazy

I say love
Don't mean nothing
'Less there's something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war

I say love
It don't mean nothing
'Less there's something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war
Oh, oh
It's a beautiful war

Beautiful war

I say love
I say love
Don't mean nothing
'Less there's something
Worth fighting for

I say love
Don't mean nothing
'Less there's something
Worth fighting for

It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war

It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war

Overall Meaning

The song "Beautiful War" by Kings of Leon is a soulful conversation between two lovers who have been through ups and downs and are now struggling to keep the fire alive. The opening verse urges the woman to hold back her emotions, reminding her that everyone has been in this situation at least once. However, unlike others who have let go, they have fought through the setbacks and salvaged their relationship. As the chorus kicks in, the man tells her that their love is worth fighting for, even though it may seem like a war.

The next verse takes a different turn as the man expresses his deep affection for the woman, saying that holding her in his arms is the most satisfying thing in the world. However, his happiness is incomplete as the woman struggles to find the right words to express herself. The chorus repeats, echoing the man's stance on love being a beautiful war. The song ends with the man repeating "I say love" twice, underscoring the power of love and the hope that it brings.

Overall, "Beautiful War" is a touching song that can resonate with anyone who has ever struggled to keep a relationship alive. Despite the obstacles, the song encourages people to keep fighting for their love, reminding them that in the end, it's always worth the struggle.

It was fun shooting this. I was an inmate. You can see me a few times in here. I'm the bearded guy with a beanie. Everyone was great. Long day, but the free BBQ was delish.

I lost my wife in a road traffic accident in 2014 she was only 36.When I went back to work after it all had happened I heard this song on the radio I'd never heard it before and thought it was beautiful. 6 years on from then it takes me back to a terrible time but its still as beautiful.
