Cold Desert
Kings of Leon Lyrics
I'm on the corner, waiting for a light to come on
That's when I know that you're alone
It's cold in the desert, water never sees the ground
Special unspoken without sound
You told me you loved me, that I'd never die alone
Hand over your heart, let's go home
Everyone noticed, everyone has seen the signs
I've always been known to cross lines
I've always been scared of the sound
Jesus don't love me, no one ever carried my load
I'm too young to feel this old
Is it you, is it me
Or does nobody know, nobody see
Nobody but me.

Cold Desert, though the lead singer, Caleb Followill, doesn't remember recording this due to him and the rest of the band being drunk at the time, he still found it good enough to make it on the record 'Only By The Night'. At the time it was recorded, according to Caleb Followill, only the 'first few lines' were written, and the rest came directly from his heart. He says when he heard it for the first time, he became very emotional and almost cried.

I never ever cried when I was feeling down

Jesus, don't love me, no one ever carried my load
I'm too young to feel this old
Here's to you, here's to me
Over us, nobody knows
Nobody sees, nobody but me

Im sitting down rocking my head. I feel alone, I've spent way to long on my own.
I was going ta go to the community fair. But I can't bare the thoughts when I stare.
Everyone noticed noticed I was a little bit strange I've tried my very best I can't change.
Maybe it's a mindset maybe I haven't tried at all. Maybe I'm addicted to the fall.
It doesn't really matter all that matters is when I'm on my own.
I feel love that's cuts to the bone.
Cry out in a sad song write it down in a love poem. This is how I find my home.
So come on everybody gather around and watch the clown.
All ways one in every town
Nowwwwooooow.

Cool Fact. The whole band was drunk when recording (making) this song, so everything but the first line was improvised. Also Caleb always regretted saying “Jesus don’t love me” in the song, he said when he was drunk the only thing he remembered singing was those lines and said he then immediately got chills all over his spine.

Those lyrics literally saved my life. At the time I didnt feel like I deserved jesus's love....that stuck with me all these years, still brings me to my knees

It's true after this album they did a type of documentary where he regretted the lyric but kept it it was raw!

@Jazz Solo Cup He spoke directly during an interview saying that he wanted to kick himself in the head after saying that. He regretted saying it, but it adds to the raw emotion and sincerity of the song.

He wanted to be a preacher and their dad was a preacher I think so I can see how he could have regretted saying that
