Echoing
Kings of Leon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waking early in the morning
Waiting on the light of day
Whole new kind of feeling is on the way
I'm not scared of knowing
If we're ever getting out
We could be here forever without a doubt

Time is always higher learning
I'm still barely making grades
Just about imagination anyway
We are circling the wagons
Lining up in a single file
Members of the jury are standing trial

Waiting on a memory
Waiting on a memory, oh

Said if you love me and you're willing to dance
We could take it to the high seas
Echoing, echoing where do we stand

My heart's hard of hearing
My head's full of sand
Feet point both directions if you need a hand
Black water reflection
Lost in a city park
I can't find my way through the dark

Waiting on a memory
Waiting on a memory, oh

Said if you love me and you're willing to dance
We could take it to the high seas
Echoing, echoing where do we stand
We'll be sailing on a wild breeze
Oh, if you love me and you're willing to dance
We could take it to high seas
Echoing, echoing, echoing

Someone's gonna tell the story
Sing from the mountain high

Worked my way from glory
We saw the moon in the sky

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kings of Leon's song "Echoing" convey a sense of uncertainty and longing for something more. The song begins with the singer waking up early in the morning, waiting for the light of day and anticipating a new kind of feeling. They express not being afraid of knowing if they will ever escape their current situation, suggesting that they may feel trapped or stuck. The lyrics hint at the possibility of being in this state indefinitely, without any doubt that things will ever change.

As the song continues, there is a mention of time and the struggle to meet its expectations. The singer describes themselves as still barely making grades, possibly alluding to the challenges they face in their personal life or relationships. They acknowledge that imagination is their only solace. The phrase "circling the wagons" suggests a desire to come together and protect themselves, while the mention of a jury standing trial implies a sense of judgment or scrutiny.

The chorus repeats the phrase "waiting on a memory," which could be interpreted as hoping for something significant or memorable to happen in their life. The lyricist appears to be yearning for love and connection, asking for a willingness to dance and exploring the possibility of taking things to new and exciting heights. The mention of echoing suggests that these longings reverberate within them, searching for resolution or fulfillment.

The latter part of the song continues to express feelings of confusion and disorientation. The singer states that their heart is hard of hearing, possibly suggesting emotional numbness or an inability to fully understand their own feelings. Their head is described as being full of sand, implying a clouded or unclear state of mind. The lyrics also mention feet pointing both directions, offering assistance to others but possibly feeling lost themselves. The mention of a black water reflection and being lost in a city park symbolizes a sense of being lost or disconnected from oneself.

The final lines of the song speak of someone telling their story and finding a sense of fulfillment or recognition. The phrase "worked my way from glory" suggests that the singer has achieved some level of success or accomplishment, possibly in terms of personal growth. Seeing the moon in the sky could signify a sense of wonder and possibility.

Overall, "Echoing" explores themes of uncertainty, longing, and the desire for connection and purpose. It captures the emotional complexities of searching for meaning in one's life and the yearning for something more.

I've grown up listening to these dudes. From a young kid listening to King of the Rodeo on repeat, through every album and every life experience to now. KoL are part of the soundtrack of my life for the past 20 years. Thanks for being here.

@Paul Huynh mmmm.... as a music enthusiast, I cannot say KOL are boring, they identify their own sound dude, cause every artist should create their own emblem and we know that, being original is always better than imitating someone's piece of art. For me I found them very very interesting and unique since I started listening to them way back 2008. Maybe they are not that loud on stage but I'm sure they touch every music enthusiast's heart, like mine. We should just open our ears to hear any artist in any genres even in heavy metal and edm. Keep safe man

I love KOL but man I was so disappointed when I saw them live years ago. Let’s just say compared to other bands (foo fighters, the darkness, rhcp) they’re boring live
