Hawkshaw was born in London, England in 1969 and is the daughter of British Disco producer Alan Hawkshaw (of Love De-Luxe with Hawkshaw's Discophonia fame; they had a #1 disco hit on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1979 with "Here Comes That Sound Again". He later went on to compose the famous theme music for the British television game show Countdown). It was through her father and her love for dance music that would inspire Kirsty to pursue a career in music.
At a rave event in 1991 she was noticed by producers Ian Munro, Kevin Dobbs and Nigel Walton, who at the time were known as A.S.K. It was through this meeting that they would form a Dance act called Opus III. Their first single, "It's A Fine Day" from their debut album Mind Fruit was an international smash and hit #1 on Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1992. They also had another US #1 hit on the Dance chart in 1994 with "When You Made The Mountain" from their second and last album Guru Mother.
After the group broke up in 1994, Hawkshaw pursued a solo career and since then has been in demand by other acts in the Dance, House, Eurodance, Trance, and Electronica community, ranging from DJ Tiesto to Delerium.
Kirsty recorded an ambient, ethereal album, Enlightenment, which was never released.
On October 10, 2005 she released Meta-Message, a collection of older and newer songs after a growing interest in her out-of print O.U.T..

Whisper
Kirsty Hawkshaw Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I must leave before my red eyes match the sunrise
No more coffee will put off today
I've stood too long
In the shadow of a doubt
I need some sun
It seems that time returns to me once more
And when I feel my world falling down
I think of you
I think of you
And when I feel I can breath no more
You speak to me
You speak to me
When the brightest star
Smiled as it squared shoulders with the night
You lit the glowing embers of my own light
Do you know
Your words could drag the moon down from the sky
Seduce my frozen heart with your war cry
You really made me listen for my voice
And I heard millions
And when I feel my world falling down
I think of you
I think of you
And when I feel I can breath no more
You speak to me
You speak to me
When you fell
I saw your visionary thoughts befriend your blood
Crimson lovers drowning in the same flood
I miss the beauty of your young black skin
I thought that freedom
Can only be defined as endless choice
And I only listened to the logic of the loudest voice
But this world
Will be shaken by a whisperβ¦
The lyrics of Kirsty Hawkshaw's song Whisper are filled with emotion and introspection. The song seems to be about the realization that time is fleeting and that the singer needs to leave before their "red eyes match the sunrise." They acknowledge that they've been standing in the shadow of doubt for too long and need to find some sun. The singer acknowledges that time is moving forward, but they seem to have less of it than they did before.
The song takes a turn when the singer thinks of "you" when their world feels like it's falling down. For whoever this "you" is, their words are powerful enough to drag the moon down from the sky and seduce the singer's frozen heart with their war cry. This "you" helped the singer find their own voice and hear "millions." The song concludes with the singer realizing that the world will be shaken by a whisper.
Overall, the lyrics of Whisper seem to be about the realization that life is short and that we need to find our own voice before it's too late. The power of words and the influence that others can have on our lives is also a prominent theme. The song is a beautiful tribute to the transformative power of love and inspiration.

I think I should go now
I have to move on from this phase in my life
I must leave before my red eyes match the sunrise
I cannot stay here any longer, no matter how painful it is
No more coffee will put off today
Avoiding the reality won't work anymore
I've stood too long
I've waited enough
In the shadow of a doubt
My uncertainty has kept me hidden from the light
I need some sun
I need to come out of my shell and see the light
It seems that time returns to me once more
I have another chance to live my life
But I have less now than before
I have lost some precious things while waiting for this moment
And when I feel my world falling down
When everything feels hopeless and chaotic
I think of you
I remember the person who showed me hope and love
And when I feel I can breath no more
When I feel suffocated and trapped
You speak to me
You revive my spirit and give me courage
When the brightest star
On a night full of wonders
Smiled as it squared shoulders with the night
The star shone so bright that it felt like a friend in the dark
You lit the glowing embers of my own light
Your love and support brought out the best in me
Do you know
Have you realized
Your words could drag the moon down from the sky
Your words have the power to do the impossible
Seduce my frozen heart with your war cry
Your strength and passion make me feel alive again
You really made me listen for my voice
You helped me find my true self
And I heard millions
I discovered the power of my own voice and realized I am not alone
When you fell
When you faced hardship and pain
I saw your visionary thoughts befriend your blood
I saw your creative ideas and dreams become a part of you
Crimson lovers drowning in the same flood
We were both dealing with difficult situations and emotions
I miss the beauty of your young black skin
I miss everything about you, especially your unique beauty
I thought that freedom
I used to believe that freedom
Can only be defined as endless choice
Means being able to have everything I want
And I only listened to the logic of the loudest voice
I only followed the opinions of society and didn't listen to my own voice
But this world
However, the world
Will be shaken by a whisper...
Can be transformed by a small and powerful message
