1. Kiss Kiss was an indie rock band that emerged from Milton's SUNY Purchase. The group was formed by Joshua Benash (guitar, synth, and vocals) and Jared Karns (drums) after the members had participated in various college bands. The name Kiss Kiss is derived from a series of short stories by Roald Dahl. Although their music is primarily rock in style, it also includes an electric violin that adds an orchestral sound to many songs. The contrasts within Kiss Kiss' songwriting and vocals have also been described as extremely frantic at times, yet melodic and soothing at others. This unusual variety of styles has helped the band's music to appeal to a wide audience.
The band's first release was a self-titled EP--initially released independently in 2004, it would be re-released on Eyeball Records with new artwork on October 11th, 2005. Their debut album, Reality vs. the Optimist, was officially released on February 6, 2007.
The band's second album, The Meek Shall Inherit What's Left, was released on July 7th, 2009.
2. On March 25, 2023, at the conclusion of WACK Audition Camp 2023 the formation of Kiss Kiss was announced. The group consists of six members of Gang Parade. Their first digital single, "Kisses", was released on April 17. On June 21, they released their debut album, First Album.
If They Only Knew
Kiss Kiss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They pushed to the back
And left marks on your soul
I thought that love was my chance to grow
But now it's gone
And I'm worse then before
I regret those wordsThat I spoke to you
To look good for the room
And all of these things we do to ourselves
They will never fadeThey'll marks on the world
The lyrics of Kiss Kiss's song If They Only Knew paint a vivid imagery of the aftermath of a toxic relationship. The opening lines, "And they came up slow/They pushed to the back/And left marks on your soul," portrays how the memories of the relationship slowly crept up on the singer, causing both physical and emotional scars that they can never erase. The following lines, "I thought that love was my chance to grow/But now it's gone/And I'm worse than before," show the regret and pain that the singer feels towards the relationship, realizing that it did not serve as a stepping stone towards personal growth but instead worsened their current state.
The next verse, "I regret those words/That I spoke to you/To look good for the room," highlights the theme of insecurity and the pressure of performing for others. The singer, in an attempt to impress people or appear better than they actually are, said hurtful things to their partner, ultimately damaging the relationship. The final lines, "And all of these things we do to ourselves/They will never fade/They'll marks on the world," suggest that the aftermath of the relationship is not just internal but external as well. The trauma and hurt caused by the relationship will leave a mark on the singer's identity and possibly affect how they engage with the world.
Overall, Kiss Kiss's If They Only Knew is a poignant and honest reflection of the aftermath of a toxic relationship. The lyrics deeply resonate with listeners who have experienced the pain of love gone wrong and serve as a reminder that we should always strive to maintain healthy and genuine connections with the people in our lives.
