Don't look back
Kissing Cousins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lay your head down, try to get some sleep
It's what you need to get some sleep
No one will worry if you shut your eyes
And get some sleep, it's what you need

Black wall will lift away but some may say
You pushed away the distant light
It's growing dim, forget about him
Don't look back, you're all alone

Falling down will be the hardest part
Running far, it's always hard
Push the pressure and stop the bleed
On your knees, begging please

Body weakens and then the mind
But the heart will lead if you get some sleep
You're all alone

Oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Don't look back, you're all alone
Oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Don't look back, you're all alone

Baby, baby, baby, don't look back
Baby, baby, baby, don't look back
Baby, baby, don't look back
You're all alone

Baby, baby, baby, don't look back
Baby, baby, baby, don't look back

Baby, baby, don't look back
You're all alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kissing Cousins's song "Don't Look Back" signify the feeling of loneliness, loss, and desperation. The song tells a story of someone who is trying to get some sleep and forget about their past, but they can't seem to shake off the feeling of being all alone. The lines "lay your head down, try to get some sleep / it's what you need to get some sleep" suggest that the person is trying to calm themselves down and convince themselves that rest is what they need. However, the lines "black wall will lift away but some may say / you pushed away the distant light" convey the feeling that the person has lost something important and is now living in darkness.

The chorus of the song, "don't look back, you're all alone," is a reminder that the person is on their own and that they need to move forward without looking back at their past. The lines "falling down will be the hardest part / running far, it's always hard" suggest that the person may have fallen in the past, but now they have to run and escape from their problems. The lines "push the pressure and stop the bleed / on your knees, begging please," suggest that the person is trying to fight their demons and stop the pain they are feeling.

Overall, the song "Don't Look Back" is a powerful representation of the struggle of moving forward and leaving the past behind.

"Don't look back, you're all alone" makes me think of two different scenarios.
One- Everyone you loved left you and now you're alone
Two- A message told to distract someone running from something truly terrifying.
