hotel
Kita Alexander Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been gettin' high
Almost every night to get you off my mind
Running down my eyes
Taste like turpentine
Why can't I say goodbye?

I've been standing in the sand
Praying for the waves and
Everything'll be fine in the end
Because you used to say

"Someday you'll find me
Where the champagne is always free
When you check into the hotel where the skyline meets the sea
One day you'll meet me and you'll know it's not a dream
It won't be hell or heaven
We'll be somewhere in between
Somewhere in between"

When we're young again
Will you call my name?
Will you still know my face?
Tie me down with pain
Take it all away
You told me I've got to wait

I've been standing in the sand
Praying for the wave but
I know now it's not the end
Because you used to say

"Someday you'll find me
Where the champagne is always free
When you check into the hotel where the skyline meets the sea
One day you'll meet me and you'll know it's not a dream
It won't be hell or heaven
We'll be somewhere in between

When everything I want goes out the door
No choice to leave the house in search of something more
Is there darkness if I dive beneath the waves
Or will it be just like you always used to say

Someday when you find me
I'll be wading in the water, wading in the water
Someday when you meet me
We will hold onto each other, hold onto each other

Someday when you find me
I'll be wading in the water, wading in the water
Someday when you meet me
We will hold onto each other, hold onto each other

One day you'll meet me and you'll know it's not a dream
It won't be hell or heaven we'll be somewhere in between

Overall Meaning

In Kita Alexander's song "Hotel," the singer is struggling to move on from a past relationship. She confesses that she has been getting high every night to try and forget the person who she can't say goodbye to. Her tears taste like turpentine, which could represent the bitterness of the situation. She questions whether or not the person will remember her when they are older and if they will still feel the same way about each other. The singer then reflects on a memory where the other person told her that they would meet one another in a hotel by the sea where the champagne is always free. They will both know it's not a dream, but it won't be like heaven or hell, rather somewhere in between, which could represent the idea of reconciliation or acceptance of the situation. The singer still holds onto hope that they will find each other again one day.

The lyrics of the song touch on a relatable sentiment that captures the listener's emotions. The song's theme of holding onto hope despite the uncertainty of the future is something many can relate to. The song provides comfort to those who are searching for answers in their own relationships or personal lives. The use of the metaphorical "hotel by the sea" also adds depth to the song, suggesting that despite the past, there is still a connection for the singer and her ex.

The fact this is about her late sister makes it so so much more meaningful ❀️😭

@savagegirl479

@cass3004

@@savagegirl479 I just read it is. Kita said in an interview that the entire Hotel EP is dedicated to her sister Tash and Hotel is about dealing with the loss. I never knew this, I had interpreted the song as about a romantic partner. Changes it so much, makes it even more beautiful.
