Wells' success in the 1950s and 1960s was so enormous that she still ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of the Billboard country charts according to historian Joel Whitburn's book "The Top 40 Country Hits", behind Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker. Wells was the third country music artist, behind Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 as well as being the seventh woman and first Caucasian woman to receive the honor. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
I Can't Stop Loving You

To live in memory of old lonesome times
I can't stop wanting you it's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday
Those happy hours that we once knew though long ago they still make me blue
They say that time heels a broken heart
But time has stood still since we've been apart
The song "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Kitty Wells is a heartbreaking ballad about the lingering pain of lost love. The lyrics speak of a hopeless love that the singer cannot let go of, despite knowing that it is useless to hold on. She has made up her mind to live in memory of the love that once was, and to continue wanting a person who is no longer there. The memories of the happy times they shared continue to make her feel blue, even though they are long gone. The idea that time heals a broken heart is dismissed, as for her, time has stood still since they parted ways.
The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced heartache, as they capture the painful and often irrational feelings that come with lost love. Despite knowing that the object of affection is no longer there, the heart still longs for their presence. The song emphasizes the difficulty of letting go, and how holding onto memories can be a way of coping with the pain of a broken heart.

I'm almost 79. I first heard her on the old "WCKY, Cincinnati 1, Ohio". A 50,000 watt
station, it was 1952. I was cleaning off two tractors after field work, I was 12. She sounds as good now as she did then. Hard to say which one was a favorite, too many god ones to choose from.
