Wells' success in the 1950s and 1960s was so enormous that she still ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of the Billboard country charts according to historian Joel Whitburn's book "The Top 40 Country Hits", behind Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker. Wells was the third country music artist, behind Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 as well as being the seventh woman and first Caucasian woman to receive the honor. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Ever since the time you told me we were through
Seven lonely days I cried and cried for you
Oh my darling you're crying hoo hoo hoo hoo
There's no use in denying I cried for you
What's your favorite past time just making me blue
Last week was the last time I cried for you
[ fiddle - guitar ]
Guess it never paced to make your lover blue
Seven lonely days I cried and cried for you
Oh my darling you're crying...
In Kitty Wells's song "Seven Lonely Days," the lyrics describe the feeling of heartbreak and the pain of separation from a loved one. The repetition of "seven lonely" emphasizes the duration of the separation and the depth of the singer's loneliness. The first verse opens with the line "Seven lonely days make one lonely week" highlighting how each day seems longer and more unbearable than the previous one. The singer reveals that she is still hurting from the news of the separation and crying for her loved one.
The second verse exposes the futility of trying to hide her sadness or pretending she is okay. She acknowledges that she cannot deny her feelings and admits that her loved one's favorite pastime is "just making her blue." The third verse reveals that the pain has subsided somewhat as she no longer cries for her loved one. However, the memory of the separation still haunts her as she has filled seven handkerchiefs and letters with her tears and fears, respectively.
Overall, the lyrics of "Seven Lonely Days" evoke the universal feeling of heartbreak and the difficulty of coping with separation from a loved one, a relatable experience for many.
