Don't Close Your Eyes
Kix Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What's you're doing out in the night time
Why'd you call me on the phone
Your mama can't solve your problem
When's daddy ever get home

So you did your little move
In the middle of the suicide
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby

No one there to hold you
No one hears you screams
You live life up and down now
Your nightmares are your dreams

Another lonely way of hanging round
Don't you take it falling down no no

Hold on hold on tight
I'll make everything all right
Wake up don't go asleep
I'll pray the lord
Your soul to keep

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby

Don't close your eyes

Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kix's song Don’t Close Your Eyes deal with the sensitive issue of suicide prevention. The song is a plea to someone who is struggling with life, contemplating suicide, and feeling helpless and alone. The first verse asks why the person is out at night and calling on the phone, suggesting they are in a dark place, and that their parents are not there to help them deal with their problems. The line, "So you did your little move in the middle of the suicide" seems to refer to someone who has made an attempt on their life.

The chorus urges the person not to give up, not to close their eyes, and not to sing their last lullaby. The second verse talks about their loneliness, the fact that no one can hear their screams, and that their nightmares are their constant companions. But the song offers a ray of hope - Hold on, hold on tight - the singer promises to make everything all right, and prays for their soul to be safe.

Overall, the song is an emotional and empathetic response to someone who is struggling with life and feeling like there is no way out. The lyrics suggest that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, and help is available.

We may have been the last generation to really enjoy our youth. No Cell phones, social media , hyper connectivity , radical groups , massive student loan debt .Just friends, hard work and great music!

@lyricmannixon1793

you are so right . i would have kept trying to reach my rock n roll dreams . i play guitar . not much anymore but i miss it . the 80s were and are always the greatest . these days , women strip naked and cant sing and make millions . wtf happened ?

@deransadventures

80s kids also had it worse than future generations in many ways. Hell, I had to dig through an encyclopedia to learn anything. Education is way more fun and interesting these days. The 80's were different. Current generations are different. Each are better and worse in different ways. Just because something is different doesn't make it worse by default.

@GrouchoTM

Yep! I miss the 80s. Not much of a kix fan but the time was a great time to be in your teens!
