He was born in Berlin, and entered a Düsseldorf conservatory in 1947, graduating in 1957. In his student years, Doldinger gained professional performing experience, starting in 1953 in the German Dixieland band The Feetwarmers, and recording with them in 1955. Later that year he founded Oscar's Trio, modeled on Oscar Peterson's work. Doldinger is perhaps best known for his film scores to the acclaimed German U-Boat film "Das Boot" and later "The NeverEnding Story".
Doldinger is highly respected among German jazz fans and musicians. His jazzband Passport had huge success in Germany.
Doldinger married Inge Beck in 1960; they have three children, Viola, Melanie and Nicolas Doldinger. Since 1968 they have resided in Munich.

Thanks man for uploading this soundtrack i think this movie is probably one of the greatest movies of all time in my book i saw 4 1/2 years ago back in apirl of 06 when i was in 8th grade and i couldn't believe how good it gave the realitys of war and i can say when this ended(it was the 5 hour version) it was sad how they all died at the end, well most of them.

After watching the film, it strucked me that 40,000 sailors signed up to serve on U-boats during WWII, but what shocked me is that 30,000 never returned home. My heart was torn when i watched the ship sink but my heart shattered into bits when the Captain, slowly dying, watched his ship go down. This marked that not all Germans were just a bunch of bloodsucking Nazis, but the Majority of the German soldiers were fighting for the family, land, and for their brothers standing beside them.
