The Klaus Lage Band's Faust auf Faust tells the story of a man who is tough and hard on the outside but has a soft spot when it comes to a woman's touch. The song opens with the man blaming the woman for appearing weak as he usually sees her as a strong and opinionated person who gets involved in everything. However, he is to blame for his vulnerability to her soft touch. The chorus emphasizes that the man can handle everything in life, but he cannot deny his feelings for her delicate touch.
The following verses describe the man's past encounters and experiences with the woman. The imagery of the coal mine illustrates the dangerous and difficult environment that they have been through. The man realizes how much they have endured together and that they have each other's backs. The woman's cunning nature is brought to light when it is mentioned that the coal manages to wash several folks clean. However, they both have found their way to the top and have overcome such challenges.
The chorus repeats, and the man recognizes that his feelings for the woman are genuine, but he cannot express them because of his tough exterior. The woman sees through him and finds ways to reach out to him, which may come as a surprise to the man. He has become used to being in control and believes that he can handle anything but is caught off guard by her gentleness.
