Can't Stand Loosing You
Klaxons vs. The Police Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say
That you don't ever want to see me again
And your brother's gonna kill me and he's six feet ten
I guess you'd call it cowardice
But I'm not prepared to go on like this
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I see you've sent my letters back
And my L.P. records and they're all scratched
I can't see the point in another day
When nobody listens to a word I say
You can call it lack of confidence
But to carry on living doesn't make no sense
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I guess this is our last goodbye
And you don't care, so I won't cry
And you'll be sorry when I'm dead
When all this guilt will be on your head
I guess you'd call it suicide
But I'm too full, to swallow my pride
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing you
The lyrics of "Can't Stand Losing You" by The Police are about a man who is heartbroken after being rejected by a girl he loves. He has been trying to reach out to her through several means including phone calls and letters, but she has returned them all. The girl's friend has told him that the girl no longer wants to see him and that her brother is planning to harm him if he persists. The man admits that he is afraid, but he is also not willing to give up on the relationship just yet.
He is devastated by the rejection and cannot imagine living another day without the girl by his side. At this point, he is contemplating suicide but decides against it, as he does not want to swallow his pride. The ending of the song is particularly poignant as the man predicts that the girl will regret her decision when he is dead.
