Verhaeghen has been involved in several projects outside The Klinik / Klinik, including Noise Unit (with Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly), D.Sign / D-Sign (with Philippe and Eliane Fichot of Die Form), X10 (with Niki Mono, Marc Ickx of A Split-Second and Vidna Obmana), and Para (with his own wife Sabine Voss).
Original The Klinik were active between 1985-1990 (// 2003 // 2009-now). At first as quarter: Dirk Ivens (Absolute Body Control, Dive, Sonar, Blok 57), Marc Verhaeghen (X10, D-Sign, Noise Unit, Para), Eric van Wonterghem (Absolute Body Control, Insekt, Sonar, Monolith) and Sandy Nys (The Maniacs, Hybryds).
On first tour they called themself Absolute Controlled Clinical Maniacs, but this rather unwieldy name was soon dropped in favour of the shorter name The Klinik. Nys soon left the band to form Hybryds, followed in 1987 by van Wonterghem, leaving The Klinik as the "classic" duo of Dirk Ivens and Marc Verhaeghen... until 90~91...

On his way to Indiana on another midnight run
So they talked about the weather, and the next thing that you knew
The hours flew by like minutes
It was time he had to go
On a rainy highway halfway out of town
A voice inside his heart said turn those 18 wheels around...
And go back
You got somebody waiting
Go back
Thats where you need to be... right now
There's nothing in this world
More important than that
So go back
They settled down in a little house
In the spring of '92
And She quit her job at the diner
With the baby almost due
Those early years weren't easy
And they had bills to pay
So he said you know I hate to leave you but I'll be back by Saturday
10 miles out of Tulsa
His boss came on his radio
Said if you wanna see your brand new daughter
You better drop that load
And go back
You got somebody waiting
Go back
Thats where you need to be... right now
There's nothing in this world more important than that
So go back
Everybody heard the sirens
They pulled his rig out of the snow
In a rush to see his family
Somehow he lost control
Though the doctors tried to save him
He slipped into the light
But then he heard the angels whisper...
Now is not your time
Go back
You got somebody waiting
Go back
Thats where you need to be... right now
There's nothing in this world more important than that
So go back
The Klinik's song, Go Back, tells the emotional story of a man driving on a rainy highway when he suddenly feels a voice inside his heart telling him to turn his truck around and go back home. The man is on his way to Indiana on a midnight run when he stops to grab some food at a diner off of highway 41, where he meets a woman and they strike up a conversation about the weather. Before they know it, hours have gone by, and the man realizes it's time for him to leave. However, as he's driving away, he hears the voice telling him to go back to the diner, where he's meant to be.
The man goes back to the diner and ends up settling down with the woman he meets there. They move into a little house together in the spring of '92, and she quits her job at the diner when their baby is almost due. They face financial hardships, but the man always reassures his wife that he'll be back in time to take care of everything. After their daughter is born, the man is on a run to Tulsa when his boss tells him that he needs to drop everything if he wants to see her. The man turns his rig around and heads back to his family, but he ends up losing control of his truck in the rush to get there. He later passes away, but the angels tell him that it's not yet his time to leave the world.
The lyrics of Go Back are very powerful and full of emotion. The story the song tells is one of love, perseverance, and ultimately, tragedy. Despite these heavy themes, the song's melody is quite uplifting and hopeful, emphasizing the idea that despite the hardships of life, there's always hope for a better tomorrow.
