part time love
Knight Gladys & The Pips Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I need somebody
Who's consistent with me
Someone already there
When I need company
'Cause when I'm feelin low
I don't wanna have to go out lookin'
For a part time kind of love
And when the dreams and rainbows start to disappear
I don't want somebody up and runnin' out of here
'Cause when you stop and start
Baby it's a just too hard upon my heart
The part time kind of love

I can't take it now
Now listen here wait'n see
I want somebodys who's committed now to me
Somewhere (someday)
Someday, you've got to take a chance
And if you like the music, baby
Get up and dance

If we go together daring to dream
I know we're gonna find our share of peaches and cream
And when the juice is low
I don't wanna know no no no excuses

Just want your full time love for me
Just want your full time love for me

Overall Meaning

In Knight Gladys & The Pips's song "Part Time Love," the singer expresses a desire for a consistent, committed partner who will be there for them when they need them. They don't want a part-time kind of love that's only there when things are good, but disappears when trouble arises. The singer emphasizes this point by saying that they don't want to have to go out looking for love when they're feeling low. They want someone who will be there through the good times and the bad.

The second verse of the song continues this theme, with the singer stating that they don't want someone who will run away as soon as things start to get difficult. They want someone who is willing to stick it out and work through the tough times. The singer knows that relationships have their ups and downs, but they believe that if they and their partner are committed to each other, they will be able to weather any storm.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's desire for a full-time love, rather than a part-time one. They want someone who will be devoted to them all the time, not just when it's convenient. The bridge of the song suggests that the singer and their partner can achieve great things together if they are both willing to take a chance and commit fully to each other.

Overall, "Part Time Love" is a song about the importance of commitment and consistency in a romantic relationship. It emphasizes the idea that true love means being there for someone through thick and thin, and not just when things are easy.

Only heard this song a couple of years back when I brought my first Gladys/Pips CD which was a best of album. Fell in love with this song immediately! And tht line you mention was also my favourite - made me think as much as I love some modern music, times have really changed if you compare the poetry of "... and if you like the music, Baby - get up and dance!" to "if you like it then you should have put a ring on it" lol BTW I was born in '75 in Australia, so I got into Gladys very late, maybe 2011?
