kultuurfeestent
Kobus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

‽Ek wil †n CD uitgee
Wil hê dat hul my foto in Huisgenoot plaasâ€

‽My drome is onrealisties

En sy tweede trefferklink so
Elke dag †n nuwe uitreiking, hoe nootvas of hoe plat

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kobus's song "Kultuurfeestent" paint a vivid picture of the entertainment industry in South Africa. The line "Ons is gyselaars in een groot kultuurfeestent" (We are hostages in a big culture tent) reflects the sentiment that artists in South Africa are being held hostage by the entertainment industry. They are at the mercy of people who prioritize self-confidence over talent. The line is repeated throughout the song to emphasize this feeling of being trapped.

The lyrics also highlight the struggle that artists face in getting their music heard. The line "Ek wil 'n CD uitgee, Wil hê dat hul my foto in Huisgenoot plaas" (I want to release a CD, Want them to put my photo in Huisgenoot) represents the desire of aspiring musicians to be noticed and recognized by the media. It is a commentary on the superficial nature of the industry that often prioritizes image over talent.

The line "Elke Jan Rap en sy maat het 'n CD op die rak" (Every Tom, Dick and Harry has a CD on the shelf) reinforces the idea that the market is oversaturated with mediocre music. The song suggests that new releases are churned out daily regardless of quality, as long as there is money to be made.

The lyrics of "Kultuurfeestent" are a critical commentary on the commercialization of the music industry in South Africa. The song highlights the struggle that artists face to make their voices heard in a system that places more value on profit and image than talent and creative expression.

Would you be able to upload the song- Ons is saam. I absolutely love your slower more acoustic sounding songs. Not to say that I don't love the hard-core albums, but these hit hard in such a different way with the superb use of emotive language.
