Brand New Day
Kodaline; Nina Nesbitt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well it's your hometown
I think I've outgrown
I wanna travel the world but I, I just can't do it alone
So I'm just waiting on fate to come.
Wrap around me
Think about all the foreign places we could be

I'll be flicking stones at your window
I'll be waiting outside 'til you're ready to go
Won't you come down? Come away with me
Just think of all the places we could be
I'll be waiting, waiting on a brand new day

Riding on waves, walking on sand
Digging in caves to find the treasures of the land
And if we find gold
Well, we'll just throw it away
We can write stories bout the journeys that we made
(We could be big in Japan)

I'll be flicking stones at your window
I'll be waiting outside 'til you're ready to go
Won't you come down? Come away with me
Just think of all the places we could be
I'll be waiting, waiting on a brand new day
Waiting on a brand new day

They said they'll keep me here
But I couldn't do another year
I said I'll see you soon
Because I whistle to a different tune

Think of all the places we could be
Think of all the people we could meet

I'll be flicking stones at your window
I'll be waiting outside 'til you're ready to go
Won't you come down? Come away with me

Think of all the places we could be
I'll be waiting, waiting on a brand new day

Overall Meaning

In “Brand New Day,” Kodaline sings about a desire for adventure and a craving to explore foreign lands. The singer feels as though they need to leave their hometown behind as they have outgrown it and embarked on new adventures. However, they don't want to do it alone and are waiting for fate to intervene and bring them a companion.

The singer imagines all the foreign places they could explore and experiences they could have with their ideal travelling partner. They express a yearning for a brand new day, full of potential and endless possibilities, to escape the monotony of their current life.

The lyrics focus on the idea of taking risks and letting go of material possessions, like gold, to truly embrace the journey. The singer is eager to create stories that will last a lifetime while exploring new places with their companion. The repeated refrains, “I'll be flicking stones at your window, I'll be waiting outside 'til you're ready to go, won't you come down? Come away with me” convey a persistent eagerness to escape and embark on an adventure.

Beautiful. It's so calming and I nearly fell asleep listening to this, it's THAT good. Their voices together, the melody, and the guitar makes it really special. I don't know enough english to say how it makes me feel but I really like the feeling this song has.

@sybylastrudbalagtas1062

@ilhamburger8288

what about now?

@Paulo2011noRio

At each new song I´m liking them better. This is their cohesive, well written harmony melody. Not that the other songs aren´t well written. They all are. It´s just that the new element added to their sound (in this case, the voice of Nina Nesbitt), has made it even nicer, sweeter. Great song. Steve´s voice is really special, and they are just starting to show up. There´s a bright future

Had the honour of hearing them perform 'all I want' together at T in the Park this year. Great chemistry in their voices, heard Nina got so into the tambourine playing that she had to go to A and E, bless her! The 'throw' at 1:41....ahhh the Irish accent. <3
